In the MTC, it seemed no one was in favor of me being there....my non-LDS family was against me serving, as was my fiance. On a whim, I called Church headquarters and asked if anyone really cared it I served or not. The receptionist asked me to hold. The next voice Said "Elder? My name is L Tom Perry." He told me that if no one else cared, HE cared. We chatted and he asked to be my Pen Pal. We wrote throughout my mission. After my mission, he asked to see me in person. He was a wonderful inspiration to me 3

Calm Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Indeed...I know my church has sure changed a lot between 2012 and 2015.The policy to change the missionary age from 19 to 18 for men and 21 to 19 for women happened between the time this thread was first opened and today. That policy change is going to have a remarkable effect on the church culture long term, but has already caused some significant changes.
Rain Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 This has been changed since Preach My Gospel was printed. As of June 2014 the missionaries are to take the lead in scheduling lessons with new members. A fellowshipper should still be present however. I have a copy of the memo at home, I believe it was from the 12.Thank you. DH is WML and the sisters told us about this, but I couldn't find anything about it. It's a little frustrating because we know everyone baptized in the last year and between all the schedules (including visitor's center hours for the sisters) it isn't getting done.
