RadioFreeDeath Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Am i the only that is happy that we don't have to search for a grounded starting source. My mind when it grasped the fact that we didn't need to go back to a single source or try to that found that it made more sense?
mfbukowski Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) Am i the only that is happy that we don't have to search for a grounded starting source. My mind when it grasped the fact that we didn't need to go back to a single source or try to that found that it made more sense? No, you're not the only one. This is what I learned from the Baltimore Catechism as a good little Catholic boy: 1. Who made us?God made us.In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1) 2. Who is God?God is the Supreme Being, infinitely perfect, who made all things and keeps them in existence. In him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28) 3. Why did God make us?God made us to show forth His goodness and to share with us His everlasting happiness in heaven.Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man, what things God has prepared for those who love him. (I Corinthians 2:9) 4. What must we do to gain the happiness of heaven? To gain the happiness of heaven we must know, love, and serve God in this world.Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth; where the rust and moth consume and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven; where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. (Matthew 6:19-20) 5. From whom do we learn to know, love, and serve God?We learn to know, love, and serve God from Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who teaches us through the Catholic Church.http://www.catholici...m/lesson01.htmlGod made us to show forth his goodness? To us? He wanted to show off?Why on earth did he need to do that? He needed to be worshiped? Sounds like an inadequacy to me!(Always did.... even at the age of 6 or 7 when I had to memorize this stuff....incidentally there were no bible verses in it then)Edit: There's more 13. What do we mean when we say that God is eternal? When we say that God is eternal we mean that He always was and always will be, and always remains the same. "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end," says the Lord God. (Apocalypse 1: 14. What do we mean when we say that God is all-good?When we say that God is all-good we mean that He is infinitely lovable in Himself, and that from His fatherly love every good comes to us.How you can be unchangeable and give fatherly love to children with changing circumstances is highly problematic. Bill “Papa” Lee Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 As I said on another thread, "God" is a big word that could mean many things. To a Muslim it means one person, to a creedal Christian it means three persons of one essence, to a Hindu it means thousands of entities who are emmenations of "The One," and I'm still trying to figure out what it means to Mormons.A topic that has been addressed so many times in out lititure...how do you see "God". For myself it is three beings, with one purpose, co-equal and co-eternal. Of course that is what the Bible teaches...the BoM have some very Modelistic scriptures.
tana Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I see us as fields of influence more than anything with a kernal of whatever it is that sees ourselves AS selves- but that we will become one eventually,Now if you could only get these philosophies accepted and taught in Sunday school.... we would all be Buddhists.
mfbukowski Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Now if you could only get these philosophies accepted and taught in Sunday school.... we would all be Buddhists.Nah, there's no kernels in Buddhism, and if you are not a field of influence, I never typed this because you had no influence on me.
tana Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Nah, there's no kernels in Buddhism, and if you are not a field of influence, I never typed this because you had no influence on me.Well, I believe that I will take no responsibility for your non-inability to not type your posts in a way that I can't rearrange them out of context for my own specific purposes.

Let's see, that's 5 negatives as I see it. I especially liked the "non-inability" part.
mfbukowski Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I love English. It's vocabularies are amazing. You have your Norse-Germanic full set of words and then the Latin from the French. Each has its own nuance. It's like a couple of different languages all melted into one. When you buy anything with an instruction manual, the English instructions are always the shortest.German is cool because you get to coin words by putting them together. One of my favorite examples for English speakers is "Gummihandschuen".What does it mean? Easy for us to figure out- because so many of these words have come into English- just split it up. "Gummy hand shoes" or "rubber gloves"But English is incredibly precise,
