My Car Was Burglarized ... But There Is A Bright Side

Nearly a year ago, my brand newly painted 1992 Honda Prelude was broken into just before dawn. My wife, when heading out for work, saw a young man dressed in black, standing between our two vehicles. When she asked, "what are you doing." he responded with a dulled, "uh, nuthin'." He picked up a black, soft-sided bag of tools and hustled on down the street. My wife came in to get me. I rushed out to the driveway ... only to find the suspect totally out of sight.

The Prelude steering column was totally ripped apart, with ignition elements in twisted pieces on the floor. There was vegetable oil everywhere (apparently to hide fingerprints).

The thief couldn't get the car going ... because for several days we knew that we had a dead battery, yet hadn't replaced it. Whodathunk that a dead battery would come in handy?.

The nice thing for me - one of my locks is broken and my car is so messy right now, I wouldn't know if someone broke in and there's nothing they would want to take unless they like candy wrappers. My husband's window was smashed years ago just for the heck of it. I feel your pain!

Mmmmm ... :P That's especially appropriate for fast day. What kind of candy? ;):D

Sorry to hear about your car. Funny about the battery, though. ;) (Your wife doesn't like to chase thugs? ;))

Normally she wouldn't have a problem ... but she was in a business suit & heels.

She sounds like quite a lady. I should do as well! ;)

I'm sure all kinds. :D

I am sure the teen would prefer that version....perhaps something in the middle, enough to make him squirm just a bit, but not so much as to cause him to blow the whole thing off..

If I thought, based on his demeanor, that he was doing that, I'd simply tell His Honor that I have grave concerns about whether the young man has an appropriate appreciation of the gravity of the proceedings, and as such, I would have to question whether any plea agreement would be sufficient to resolve the matter.

Well, at least it's not fast day anymore, and there's nobody else in the room to see me drool! :P;)

My car was one of several (along with my parents' and those of several neighbors) which was burglarized overnight in my neighborhood.

Confession time; who else opened this thread expecting the "bright side" to be one of the following?

  • They didn't steal anything, just left a Book of Mormon and a pass-along card
  • They didn't steal anything, just filled the car with fresh vegetables
  • They stole all the trash he'd been meaning to haul to the dump
  • They felt so sorry for him that they detailed the car and filled the tank

I opened this thread expecting the "bright side" to be (E), "All of the above." ;) (Although, I kinda wish the guy hadn't broken out my window to leave the Book of Mormon and the pass-along card ... :D)
