Endowment Next Saturday!

Hi all! It's been awhile since I've posted, though I lurk here all the time  . Anyway, next Saturday I'm set to be endowed in the Manhattan New York Temple! I'm pretty excited, since I've looked forward to the full temple experience since I was baptized a year ago. I've loved going to do baptisms, and the temple really is a great place to experience the Spirit of the Lord. I was talking to one of my friends who is a temple ordinance worker, and she says that our temple is great because we can ask to become ordinance workers (there seems to be a decent number of YSAs that are ordinance workers in my stake). I'm thinking about looking into that after I attend the temple for some time (she said I could even mention to the Temple President that that is a goal of mine).

I have a question about the white clothing. I'm on the distribution center's website, and am buying a carry-all bag, white tie, white belt, and white pants. I can also buy the white slippers instead of the shoes, right? Also, on another forum someone mentioned that I can wear the same white dress shirt that I wear on Sundays. That should be okay even if the buttons are beige colored? I plan on going to the Manhattan distribution center later on to purchase garments and the ceremonial clothing. My escort mentioned that we get a discount for receiving our own endowment. Does this only cover the ceremonial clothing and not garments or white clothing? Finally, from what I understand, there are different styles/fabrics of garments (I'm a male btw). When I go to the DC, would they allow me to see unmarked versions of these styles/fabrics? I'll most likely go with cotton, but I'm more interested in the shirt styles.

Thanks for the help, can't wait for next Saturday!

Congratulations!

I'd just call the distribution center. They can answer all of your questions about discounts, etc..

I've never even looked at the color of the buttons on my shirts, so I don't know. but if the "beige" isn't too dark, I think you'd be okeh.

Congratulations again.

I bought my white pants from a regular store. Same with socks and shirt. I use the slippers for convenience during the endowment ceremony (I only recommend shoes for temple workers). Tie and belt were from the Distribution Center (because how often have you seen a white tie and belt at a regular store?).

Any location that sells garments has samples out for your reference. In a very small few centers you ahve to ask at the desk for it, but agian, mostly they are on the rack ends. I personally like 100% cotton, but there are tons of varieties to fit your tastes.

That's wonderful news, ChristKnight! I think you'll have a great experience. You sound ready.

By the way, you will definitely want to get slippers instead of shoes. You can get the shoes later when you become an ordinance worker. :)

I soaked a cream colored tie in a bucket of bleach for my first Temple tie. 8)

The tie probably covers the buttons anyways.

Have fun in New York City. I recall one person I knew who went to the Manhattan temple. They were shocked after as they exited where across the street they saw David Blaine floating around in a large water filled sphere. Quite the contrast :)

All excellent questions, and the distribution center is prepared to handle each one. You may wish to buy a limited number of 2 or 3 types of garments/fabric and decide which you like best.

There comes a point where we just have to trust in the Lord, and I think "beige buttons on a white shirt" is where I trust the Lord's tender mercies. As long as it's a very light beige. Dark beige is definitely a no-no, as it ruins the symbolism of part of the ceremony.

If i recall, our local distribution center has swatches of fabrics for you to see the different patterns. If you wear cotton now, there's no reason to try something different right away. Just stick with what you like.
