Not to brag or anything and I am quite confident others have had this experience but this through me for a total and complete loop. So a few weeks ago I got called to the be the Ward Mission Leader in my ward and I was studying Pres. Kimball April 1974 Regional Rep. seminar address about converting the world. I wanted to know why he gave that talk and the social climate around that time and any other details. So I read some stuff but I dunno just wanted to know more. So I emailed the Church History division if they could recommend anything. Well I didn't hear back from them and kinda forgot about it until today. When I got home there was a message on me answering machine saying "Hello XXXXXX, this is Elder Rufus T. Firefly of the Seventy and I am responding to your request about Pres. Kimball's talk call me back at xxxxxxxx". Well, I died. I died, I died. I died. I don't get phoned like that.like.ever. I have only talked briefly to 3 General Authorities in my life. So I was sweating as I called him and he sounded SUPER SICK. He sounded like he was on a bed or something. So I was respectful of his time and he asked me about the weather here in Canada and about me and my family situation, he told me to get married and I asked him some questions but he was hard to make out, I think he was on meds or something and they were kicking in, but he told me what he recalled as he was a Regional Rep at that time and other stuff from that time period and I was SO blown away that he was so sick and yet he made time for little old me. I was feverishly taking notes. I have been saying to others I rrrrrreeeeaaalllllyyy didn't expect a phone call from a General Authority. I was and still am totally dumbstruck but profoundly grateful for the experience.

I got to meet Elder Packer at a BYU devotional one time. When it was my turn to shake his hand I mumbled something stupid and unintelligable as my brain tripped over my tongue.

I have always wanted to write him and explain myself - but I'm sure it happens often.

My in-laws met one members of the 12 (Cook maybe?) and one member of the Seventy recently in their ward. It was their stake conference and they stayed after to clean up. They were walking out of a room after putting away the hymnals and about got run over by the stake president and the other two as they were going to the airport or somewhere very quickly. The member of the 12 and the member of the Sevently took a few steps further, looked at each other and then stopped and came back and shook their hands. The stake president had kept walking. They do not think this reflected badly on the stake president as at the end of stake conference it had been mentioned that there wouldn't be any time for greeting due to the rush they were in, although obviously they must have had a meeting since they were still in the building when my in-laws were cleaning. Anyway it is pretty cool though that the GA's stopped and came back to say hello to my in-laws.

That's pretty cool! I am sure they will treasure that moment!

Rufus T. Firefly is named president/dictator of bankrupt Freedonia and declares war on neighboring Sylvania over the love of wealthy Mrs. Teasdale.

I know nothing more about it but what a google search of the name showed. I didn't recognize it, and so did a search

I know that letters to general authorities often get returned to stake presidents of the person who sent them, and typically the president returns them to the bishop- so if this is a prank, it could have happened at the local level if the bishop lost or misplaced the letter.

Huge fan of the Marx Bros.! That's where I got the name! I was going to use the another one, J. Cleaver Loophole, also from the Marx Bros, but Firefly sounds cooler! I didn't want to give away the General Authority's real name just out of respect for his personal situation. It isn't a prank.

I figured you were giving a 'false' name to protect the GA. :)

What threw me off were all the X's EXCEPT on the name.

Kind of like the law firm that the 3 Stooges tangled with from time to time--Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe.

I believe Click and Clack use their services these days.
