Traela Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 After 27 years in his calling, our 92-year-old stake patriarch was released (at his request) from his stake duties. We sustained a new patriarch, and naturally that was the topic of some of the talks. One speaker mentioned that our adoptive lineage is related to promised blessings and responsibilies associated with a particular tribe. I have heard that Epraim is responsible for the gathering of Israel. Does anyone know anything about the other tribes?
alter idem Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 You can read the promises made to the tribes in Genesis, chapter 49.
katherine the great Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 You can read the promises made to the tribes in Genesis, chapter 49.I don't see anything in there specifically to Ephraim. I assume the branch growing over the wall refers to Joseph's tribe being split into the half tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh? The blessing seems to prophesy great unspecified blessings and great numbers but I'm not seeing a job description in the blessing.
frankenstein Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I think there is something in the OT about Ephriam being likened to a bull driving others.

I assume our LDS view of Ephraim's blessing come from other scripture sources and possibly modern revelation, but here's something that offers more on Ephraim and it's role in the gathering of Israel:http://www.ldslearning.org/tribe-of-ephraim.htm
alter idem Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I think there is something in the OT about Ephriam being likened to a bull driving others.Good memory. Deuteronomy 33:16-17...let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh. It does infer that the posterity of Ephraim, the firstborn of Joseph, as well his brother, Manasseh, will gather the tribes.
