Deborah Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Matt 10:30 tells us "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered." So are the hairs on our bodies numbered as well? In 1 Corinthians 11:14 we read "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"Both Revelation 1:14 and D&C 110:3 describe the Savior as having white hair. And yes Porter Rockwell and Samson were both instructed not to cut their hair. And both men were very strong and unable to be killed. So does long hair serve another purpose when one is called upon to grow it? Based on Paul's statement did Jesus have long hair as usually depicted or did he have short hair. It really is an interesting question and one we probably won't know until we get to the other side. Now look how much time I've spent looking up scriptures about hair.

thesometimesaint Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I think we'll look our best. Whatever that is. I don't particularly like beard on me. But have had a bushy mustache for since I was 19.
nicolasconnault Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Sufferers of hypertrichosis might appreciate an answer to this profound question...
Glenn101 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Something to consider is:Proverbs 16:31 said:The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.Just sayin'Not all hoary heads have hair but then again not all hoary heads are bald. I'm in the middle.Glenn
Ariarates Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I agree but I also agree with the OP. After all, this issue is grave enough for General Authorities to address in various settings. Many people in church (myself included) are taken to task by people in ecclesiastical authority because of facial hair or hair length. Missionaries are supposed to be clean shaven and have short hair. We pressure our youth to conform. It's too easy to dismiss this issue but at the same time it's too silly to be taken seriously.I hope I'm forgiven for quoting myself. What bugs me is this: if the question raised by the OP is truly trivial, why do our leaders enforce what can only be described, then, as trivial rules? I am reminded of Matthew 23, where Jesus accuses the Pharisees for binding "heavy burdens and grievous to be borne" on men's shoulders with the sole purpose of being "seen of men". Isn't that the only justification ever given for LDS grooming rules and regulations - that we must look clean anc sharp to be examples to the world?IMO, you can't have it both ways. Either it's important and our leaders need to speak out on this subject and enforce these rules, or it's unimportant and everybody can dress and groom in a manner they feel comfortable with. Which is it, in your opinion? Or are there other alternatives still? One thing is for sure, I'd be very careful about mocking Elder Oaks's bald head, lest a bear slays the lot of you.

Kiviuq Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 What about red hair? You know the old saying - "Better dead than red"...If my wife doesn't have her beautiful red hair in the next life then that eternity thing is off! Here's hoping she's red when dead.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 It's a question I've never seen at least, and one I've never seen addressed by Joseph Fielding Smith or Bruce R. McConkie. We know that all men will be resurrected, but what about the beard thing? Will all men have beards in the next life? Stephen and Joseph Smith never really said the Father and Son had beards, but Joseph never said they were clean shaven. In most of the depictions of Moroni, he's clean shaven; however the Father and Son are always shown as having beards.Any self respecting Greek knew that Zeus, Poseidon and Hades had beards, but Apollo and Hermes didn't...well, most of the time (vases may vary). Likewise, we know that Lehi, Laman and Lemuel had beards, but Nephi didn't. I've thought about it...probably more than I should...and I don't really want a beard in the afterlife. We know that not a hair of our heads will be lost, but I just want to appear as I am now and I don't want to shave. Shoot, at BYU back in the 70s, only women were allowed to have facial hair...which brings up another doctrinal question. Are women going to be resurrected with...well, you get the point. Glamor photos of women don't sell unless five pounds of hot wax is brought in and there's some screaming (something most men could not bear...the wax, not the screaming). So if we're all resurrected with every hair intact, this could create some problems I never read about in Doctrines of Salvation. There's something fatherly and wise about men with beards. But I don't want one. You don't think we'll have to shave, do you? And while no one looks askance at a bald man, if a bald angel appeared, we'd probably laugh our heads off. I mean, what if Moroni had appeared to Joseph as a bald, clean shaven man? That's not something I'd expect to see in a church movie. Or what if Adam had been bald? He might get away with it if he had a beard, but we know Adam didn't have a beard, right? No depiction of Adam I've seen ever shows him with a beard. So what do you think?Grooming standards are the result of the times, the reason why early prophets of this dispensation had beards was because that was the style of the times. You see the same with US Presidents of that time period several had beards, yet today none do. The Church insists todays standard of professional appearance for it's high leadership and missionaries, which is clean shaven, and a clean suit and tie. In 50 years it will be something completely different

However, at least part of my attraction for my redhead is the occasional entertainment value...

What bugs me is this: if the question raised by the OP is truly trivial, why do our leaders enforce what can only be described, then, as trivial rules? The rules of good grooming aren't trivial either for church, business or socially. They say something about not only what that person thinks of himself but what he thinks of whom he is representing, whether it be church or business. What is unimportant is speculating on what will be in the resurrection, and that's all it is: pure speculation.

LDS Guy 1986 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Unshaven, dirty suits, bolo ties?It could be, I don't know what the world will look like in 5 mins let alone 50 years. If you listen to all the doom-n-gloom folks we will be back in the stone age within the next 50 years so our grooming and dress standards may look like this!
