frankenstein Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 A co-founder of facebook, announced that he is engaged to marry his long time boyfriend. The boyfriend/fiance is the political director of freedom to marry, this is from the Freedom to Marry website "From a prophetic vision once shared by only a few, the marriage movement has rapidly gained traction with the American public, and in the past decade, we secured the freedom to marry in five states and the District of Columbia."So this got me to thinking, should believers in traditional marriage be part of facebook, due to the lifestyle choice of at least one of the co-founders? Then I remembered the "friends of mammon" verse. I did notice that the LDS Church seems to have a facebook page. If the co-founder was drawing were drawing a income/salary/benefits from facebook, and he was using some of the income to support ssm marriage or other causes which the LDS Church has politically opposed - as the LDS Church states moral issue - would you delete yourself from facebook?

It does not reduce the strength of our nations first documents and their inspiration, and I am proud to belong to the organization of the United States of America.
Mordecai Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 If the co-founder was drawing were drawing a income/salary/benefits from facebook, and he was using some of the income to support ssm marriage or other causes which the LDS Church has politically opposed - as the LDS Church states moral issue - would you delete yourself from facebook? Why do you have to tell us stuff like this? I have a tendency to not buy products that seem to be promoting what I consider to be political garbage. I suppose I could use Facebook less. I'm not ready to abandon it just yet.
bluebell Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 No, i wouldn't delete myself from facebook. I personally don't boycott businesses that support things i don't agree with. I don't like passive/aggressive manuevers like trying to blackmail someone and threatening their livlihood if they won't bow down and publically agree with my beliefs. If i think the product they are selling is 'bad' then i will boycott them, but not for beliefs...

Thunderfire Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 In my opinion, we must see and acknowledge how God uses sinners to fulfill his will. But then we need to remember that ALL of us are sinners and fall short. Personally, I have seen a great good that has come from Facebook (as well as evil). In the end, it is what I make of it or how I use it, my integrity shown and ministry offered. At times I am astounded with the lives changed by a few inspired words. The ability to "go places" where I physically cannot go and reach deep into the lives of people.
selek Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Why do you have to tell us stuff like this? Because Francis' liberalism (his first and true religion) drives him to promote a homophilic agenda. This is no different in practice or principle than a committed Christian being driven to share the good news of Christ's resurrection and the redemption offered through Christ's atoning sacrifice. In point of fact, the only difference between the two efforts is "who is being worshipped".I have a tendency to not buy products that seem to be promoting what I consider to be political garbage. Then you should probably avoid Francis's posts for the same reasons he suggests we should avoid Facebook.A review of his posts reveals a consistent mix of politics, political correctness, a one-way attitude of fault-finding, and an agenda of making the Saints "offenders for a word" in every venue where they do not agree with his larger political dynamic. While he occasionally makes points well worth considering, they are usually buried sufficiently that we have to dig for them.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Unfortuantly, Comrade Frank, I am not going to get rid of my face book page. I don't use it all that much but I have found a certain aspect of it nice to have.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Because Francis' liberalism (his first and true religion) drives him to promote a homophilic agenda.Ha, it appears you and I are thinking on the same page. You just said a whole lot more than I did.
Duncan Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I wouldn't have known that unless you told me and I don't know the person in question so I don't really care! I ,so far, have boycotted places that sell Adult materials
selek Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Ha, it appears you and I are thinking on the same page. They make pills for that. You just said a whole lot more than I did. They make pills for that, too. I also want to be clear- I don't have any personal animosity towards Francis- but I'm tired of his agenda coloring all of his dealings here.Who was it who said, "A bore it a person who can't change his mind and won't change the subject?"

Would you use a product if you knew part of the proceedes generated by that product went to support a cause you do not support. And yes, a profile on Facebook creates "proceedes" for facebook as a profile goes to the over value of facebook, also, advertising, etc. I have not suggested anyone delete their account. It is clear that the OP is a "If, Then" situation; one of which I do not even know if the homosexual co-founder gets any income (irs definition) from facebook. and as I noted it seems the Church has a facebook page. I would that thunderfire has a very good take on the situation. I too think God "uses" sinners for His benefit.

selek Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Then why post in the thread at all selek? To answer Mordecai's question- why else?
