That's from, Isaiah 43:10. Why is it that Mormons believe there are other gods when God said that there was never a god before Him and there won't be one after Him either?

Also part of Isaiah 44:6 says "I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."

What are Mormons thoughts on those?

How familiar are you with current scholarship on this subject?

Familiar enough to know that what Mormons believe is false. Please answer the question. Maybe I'm wrong, so please tell me why you think I am.

Is this "John Brantley Plunkett" from Facebook??

"Isaiah 43:10 "Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me." Mormons believe otherwise though. Why?"

Small world!!!

Dude, why did you block me? I still want to know what the "over 3,193" non-grammatical changes are in the Book of Mormon... You never answered me, then you blocked me.

Then perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the current level of scholarship (I say this because you have already dictated the terms of your argument with no appeal authority outside of one understanding of scriptures--IE pride).

The key to understanding this issue is in understanding the fact that God is more than only one person.

There is only one true God, but there is no limit to the number of persons who are or can be that one and only true God.

The Isa 40-45 set is in the context of other gods created/made for the Hebrews to worship besides Jehovah. There aren't any. If it were otherwise, the Bible would conflict with itself because it teaches the plurality of Gods in numerous other verses both OT and NT. The early orthodox Christians also taught the plurality of Gods though anyone arguing against this Biblical doctrine using Isaiah probably doesn't know that.....

So it's up to you to decide what direction you want to take. OT, NT, the ECF. Rolls the dice and makes yer choice.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God. We also believe that the Bible is open to a variety of interpretations. One of the primary tools used to understand any passage is to look t the context of the saying.

In this case, and in all others where this kind of wording appears, the background, the context, pits the worship of Jehovah against that of other gods (Ba`al, Sin, Moloch, etc. So, in its context, we accept it wholly.

The question we put to you is, how do you explain the 82d Psalm? The text there (and the context, too) is plainly that three are many Gods, a counsel of Gods.

Were the Psalm the only indication of a counsel of Gods, you might have a case that it is an outlier and not applicable, However, there are a host of such passages.

Moreover, the very name of God in the Old Testament is plural: Eloheim

God is making reference to false, pagan gods made/created by humans.

Afterall, God clearly declares that the is the "God of gods" numerous times in the Bible.

Apparently... the Jehovah of Isaiah was suffering from amnesia... because the Jehovah of King David knew of all kinds of other gods... and Jesus says this scripture can't be broken.

Pslam 82

6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

John 10

33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

I will of course preempt this. Those were human judges that were called gods.

So, just for a change of pace, we have someone who's just read this scripture, had a rush of blood to the head, and convinced that he's the first person to have ever thought of this, tears on over here to tell us what we believe and confront us with this unanswerable "gotcha" question.

What a surprise.

Here, just for you, and absolutely free of charge, is the best advice you will ever receive in your life:

Get a clue. Read a book.

And learn some manners.

Not tonight... work and school in the morning. You could always join us this spring for the Men's Retreat our Restoration Branch has in Pacific City. You could see that maybe us "apostates" aren't all that bad.

Yes, but he used the meaning of real and divine Gods else there would have been no blasphemy.
