Sacred Sexuality and the Law of Chastity

I have some Augustinian hang-ups about marital intimacy. In order to overcome them and have a healthier relationship with my eternal companion, I have been researching sacred sexuality and trying to figure out how it relates to the Plan of Salvation.

Because the above has lead to over-personalization of this thread, I am striking it out and replacing it with the paragraph below.

I am learning to approach all areas of life from a sacramental and magical perspective. One of the most important and least understood aspects of life is marital intimacy. In my explorations in the alternative spirituality communities, I have discovered some things that seem to shed an interesting light on the Law of Chastity and I would like to explore them here.

To give an idea of the level I am working at here, have you ever tried to put together a jigsaw puzzle without the picture and where there might be a few pieces from other puzzles mixed in? As you start to put pieces together, you get a concept of what the whole picture must be, but only in part. You can't quite tell how it all fits together. Or, have you ever tried to wear glasses with the wrong prescription?

I have come to suspect that the common pagan/gnostic concept of the sacral king joining with the high priestess of the genius loci in order to bring fertility to the land is an incomplete understanding of what happens when a Queen/High Priestess and her King/High Priest are sealed together in the House of the Lord.

Another maybe piece is that in some hermetic lodges, it is recommended for group work that as close to an even balance between males and females is involved in order to balance the forces. At the level we work at in this world, that can be done away with if the individuals are balanced within themselves: but at the level our Heavenly Parents work at, couldn't that split be even more vital? (If anyone here works with electronics, perhaps they can explain how you need to be more careful designing a computer than a simple flashlight.)

(I am aware of the value of the Law of Chastity in preserving social cohesion, in maintaining healthy families, and in Eternal Increase; but while those are an important part of the larger picture, I would like to focus here on just the kind of thing discussed above.)

In the title, I meant to wright "Law of Chastity." Could one of the Mods change it for me? Thank You.

Phew! I thought this was going to be a thread showing how those living under the LoC must also share wives.....

I don't know what those could be but I recommend Proverbs 5:18-19 and the Song of Solomon. Be one!

I have been researching sacred sexuality and trying to figure out how it relates to the Plan of Salvation.

The way I understand it, given my limited perspective, sacred sexuality is but one of many MEANS to the END of salvation and exaltation, and not an END in itself. Understanding this helps me to keep sexaulity in proper perspective while also giving me a gage for determine if I am using and understanding sexuality correctly--and this by virtue of whether or not my sexual thoughts and behaviors are moving me in a direction of salvation and exaltation and enableing others to do likewise.

Intellectually, I know that married couples are supposed to do certain things together, but psychologically, whenever I perform my husbandly duties even after 9 years of marraige, I still feel horribly guilty. ( I still do it, I just feel unhappy about it.)

I'm not sure if I understand the problem. Care to rephrase?

I am trying to understand the LoC from an esoteric/magical perspective.

I can understand your concern, but I think this is one of the most inappropriate places to bring up this issue.

I would seek professional help. Your issue here, might the one a very few times, I would suggest LDS Social Services.

I don't see how considering the problem from an esoteric/magical perspective will help with that. I also suggest seeking counselling.

From a strictly worldly prospective, I would suggest counciling, either as a couple of singularly.

Please don't take offense.

My ex-wife made me feel guilty about intimacy as well, hopefully it works out better for you than I.

Have you considered counseling? I could understand maybe an adjustment period of a few months after marriage to get used to the idea, but nine years is a long time to still be feeling guilt.

as for your guilt about it. Did you grow up LDS? It is my opinion that the excessively rigid message of all things related to what is under my clothes and the "your bodies are evil" (editorializing on that one) message given to minors in the Church, produces sexual dysfunction in adult.

Thanks, I don't really want to talk about my issues here so much as to explore the LOC from an esoteric perspective. I probably shouldn't have included the first sentence in my OP, I was just giving some background on my reasons for being interested. I do think the topic as value apart from the source of my interest.

You still feel that traducianism is true?

I don't know about it being an LDS thing. I'm sure it happens to people of all faiths. My ex-wife that was all "sex is just for procreation" guilt ridden from her Lutheran upbringing.

That is completely inappropriate, you get two weeks off and if you ever say anything like that again you will get a permanent ban. ~Mods

I did and you are probably right. But that's all I want to say on that part.

Not at all, and I didn't mean to imply that. Intellectually, I know that my feelings are incorrect, but no arguments have been able to eliminate the completely insane feelings I get.

I'm not into magic, so I don't know how to relate to the question very well. However, I would say that the merging of the sacred feminine and the sacred male in the act of attempted procreation is one of the most beautiful, magical, and spiritual experiences that two people can have together. I don't know what to say, other than my wife and I find a comforting peace, and closeness through that act which we fully embrace as a couple and it brings a depth to our marriage that we both lacked in our previous marriages.

And now, I've tip toed as close to that "Too Much Info" line as I feel comfortable getting... :P

I am sorry, but this is Freudian nonsense that is demonstrably false on a number of levels. If there is sexual dysfunction within the LDS Church, it is a result of the distorted way in which SOME people misinterpret and mis-apply the prefectly reasonable and function moral precepts taught therein.

Can we get back onto the subject of esoteric/magical/ritual perspectives on the LOC?
