The program book for this November's annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Atlanta, Ga. is available online here. I'd like to list some papers and sessions I think are of general or particular interest to Latter-day Saints. If the session isn't listed you can just search for the name in the program book. You can read each paper's abstract by clicking on its title in the program book. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. (If you can't figure out how it's relevant, the author is probably LDS.)

Tod R Harris, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Still Water, Rushing Water: A Comparison of the River Descriptions in Genesis with Parallel Portrayals in Old Norse Eddic Literature

James F. Berlin, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints---Translation Division

Make sure you register soon. It can be really expensive if you do it on site. We'll have to organize a lunch or dinner for MADB participants who will be there.

BYU will have a reception on Saturday night, too, just so everyone knows. A lot of people have been asking about the BYU New Testament commentary. That will be the place to get answers.

How long is each seminar and how many can you attend? Like to hear these

Just noticed that if you sign up for an SBL associate membership, which is $60, the Early price would drop $100, so you'd end up saving $35 or so , plus getting member benefits. Why wouldn't I do this?

I also saw could have saved more yesterday.

I'm presenting two papers. You can find them under Daniel O. McClellan in the list in the OP.

Congratulations Daniel. The conference looks fascinating, very well represented by some very bright LDS scholars, up and coming, and well established. It's very tempting.

After Margaret Barker came to BYU in 2003, she commented to John Tvedtnes that Nibley's Christian Envy of the Temple had been one of things that turned her towards study of the temple. It's interesting to see this thing coming full circle. The little leaven having done a great deal of work.

Thanks Kevin. I'm looking forward to this year's program. The monotheism session looks great, as do the LDS and the Bible sessions. There are a few other sessions that have caught my eye, too.

Wow! They all look great. I notice that you have two topics you're presenting. Well done. Alas, I will once have to forgo attending in as have to pay the mortgage. :::sigh::: Does SBL ever print transcripts? I don't think so.

Thanks Ron. No, they don't really do transcripts (nothing's recorded), but some sessions publish the papers. Your best bet is to find bibliobloggers that liveblog the papers. If you get in touch with authors of papers you think are interesting they'll often send you a draft, as well.
