Calm Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 What I have in mind? I feel that the doctrine of the afterlife set forth by Joseph Smith is very problematic. Is this the doctrine you have in mind? The Prophet Joseph Smith taught:
Calm Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Where is the awe and wonder of God?How is possessing awe and wonder for the Atonement---the ultimate gift of God--- rejecting the awe and wonder of God?
Calm Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Oh ye of little faith. This was a 5 page thread when you posted your post, which while appreciated, is an additional post to the many other posts declaring basically the same thing that you said, in this thread. Thanks for saying what you said, though. I totally agree with you, which is a good thing, I think.Yeah, I would have been surprised if no one had mentioned it, but was thinking I would be interrupted prior to finishing the thread and did not want to forget my thought.....As it turned out, no interruption happened....though perhaps one should have, lol.
zeezrom Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 How is possessing awe and wonder for the Atonement---the ultimate gift of God--- rejecting the awe and wonder of God?Not what I meant. David T Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Not what I meant. Becoming God doctrine diminishes God IMO. So you think God would be greater if He couldn't or wouldn't help His children become like Him?
Deborah Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Not what I meant. Becoming God doctrine diminishes God IMO. I simply do not understand this argument. Do my children becoming successful and happy adults diminish me in any way? On the contrary, they magnify me because I taught them and stood by them.
Calm Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I think if we want to understand what type of progression will occur in the Celestial Kingdom (remember this is postJudgment meaning we've climbed to the top of the ladder with the Lord's help) then the best way to tell imo is to look at what God is currently going through. I would not say that he does not experience conflict in that the scriptures speak of his sorrow and wrath etc. but such occurs with those in mortality. There is no indication that there is any disagreement occurring between those in the Celestial Kingdom, rather as scriptures have already been pointed to in this thread, the community that exists in the Celestial Kingdom with God and Christ as the Center is one of one heart and one mind (meaning in my view not only do all in the CK want the same thing as a community, they think the same way about it).So progression occurs in the Celestial Kingdom imo through an increase of relationships and the increase of their quality. As far as jealousies and other conflicts occurring in the CK, I think we need to look at why they occur in mortality to see the reason why they will not be present in the CK. Jealousy usually occurs when one partner is offended by someone paying what they think is inappropriate...but why are they offended? For most I would say it is due to a lack of faith in the relationship, they are afraid the attention will damage the relationship in some way, that the other partner will begin to prefer someone else, etc. etc. If we are truly one with our partners in the CK, how can that type of doubt in ourselves, the other and our relationship occur? And if all others in the CK are equally perfected as we have become, how then would anyone do anything that would be interpreted as offensive? Communication would be perfected (one mind and not seeing things through a glass darkly, but knowing as we are known after all) so misunderstandings won't occur and intentional offense won't be given in a community of unified love.Envy of another won't exist either among individuals that are perfected, how could you want to be what someone else if you are fully perfected in yourself? Why would you be jealous of another's relationship if you have the perfect relationship for yourself? The only reason to be envious might be because you have less perfect relationships....but what would be stopping you from developing such relationships within the context of eternal progression? Besides, that type of envy comes from thinking we are less than another because we lack something another has....we won't be thinking that way in the CK, self esteem issues such as those will be fully resolved before we enter into the realm of the CK if only because we have fully accepted the peace and joy that the Lord offers us through the Atonement (and there will be other reasons beyond that we will put aside with other childish things with during our santification). Why would there be conflict among the community if all are of one heart and one mind? The Celestial Kingdom is not only the ideal community of ideal individuals and ideal relationships that we can imagine in this life, but something way beyond it that we can---something embued with the full and ever present power and grace of the Son and the Father, something we can only have a small taste of in this life but are promised full access to in the next if we so desire.

Here is a great site to help you start training early to become a god: http://phet.colorado...My_Solar_SystemSince God's top priority as stated by God is in his relationships with his children ("to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"), I think it would be a better use of time to concentrate on those areas if preparing to be one with the Lord is the sole measure in how we spend our time.We don't become God anymore than He becomes us. The scriptures make it clear that we can become one with the Lord and with the Father. Do you have a problem with that?
LeSellers Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Becoming God doctrine diminishes God IMO. How so? Did my sons' becoming fathers diminish me or my father and grandfathers? Did it change their fatherhood, or grandfatherhood? Or, as I see it, did it increase or augment their status? Lehi

LehiAnd if one wants to use the "office" in comparison, does the fact that a king or president is followed by another diminish the majesty of that king or president or is the true, lasting glory inherent in the individual and the office is merely a way for that glory to be expressed?
Ahab Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Not what I meant. Becoming God doctrine diminishes God IMO. That may be so IYO, but it does just the opposite. It glorifies God when more people become like him, thus adding to the number of persons who are God.There would still be only one God, though, just more persons who are that one God.Here is a great site to help you start training early to become a god: http://phet.colorado...My_Solar_SystemDoes a person need a special password or something to be able to get onto that site? That link didn't work for me. Not that I'm worried. I'm learning how to become God by following Jesus Christ.
erichard Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 ...... All must be saved on the same principles. ... If a man gets the fullness of the priesthood of God he has to get it in the same way that Jesus Christ obtained it; and that was by keeping all the commandments and obeying all the ordinances of the house of the Lord." (TPJS pg. 308)Hi K,Very good. The question should not be whether the church has accepted the 1886 revelation or not, the question should be: is the revelation true revelation or not?D&C 132:66 promises further revelation concerning the New and Everlasting Covenant of marriage. Has this further revelation been given? Is it not possible that John Taylor's revelations was part of the fulfillment of that promise? I, of course, believe many of the 2BC revelations further fulfill this promise. The D&C is FULL of instructions the church does not live. [One little example: the instruction that when the sacrament is blessed, the congregation is to kneel with the priest. The BoM also teaches this.] Is it not possible that in every case the church is incorrect in failing to live by the instructions given to them?D&C 132:44 says: "And if she hath not committed adultery, but is innocent and hath not broken her vow, and she knoweth it, and I reveal it unto you, my servant Joseph, then shall you have power, by the power of my Holy Priesthood, to take her and give her unto him that hath not committed adultery but hath been faithful; for he shall be made ruler over many. The expression "he shall be made ruler over many" implies plural marriage. So this instruction clearly requires polygamy under some circumstances. To say it is a "done deal" that the church will never live any plural marriage is to say that the instructions in this verse have been done away with. I can believe that the Lord will not give the church further revelation until they realize that the law they are to live by is the words of Eternal Life in the scriptures, and not men in the flesh, with blood in their veins.RichardThe First Revelation to The ProphetReceived February or March, 1961At Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada1 Thus saith the Lord God: Not until the church again lives the New and Everlasting Covenant as revealed to them in plainness by My servant the Prophet Joseph Smith, and verified from time to time by others of My holy prophets, will I instruct and guide this church with further enlightenment.2 For if ye will not receive the word ye have, what profit will it be if I reveal more to you? For you will treat it as naught and trample it under your feet.3 Repent therefore, both the sheep and the shepherd, and I will reveal more of the mysteries of My kingdom, for I will give here a little and there a little, line upon line, and precept upon precept, if ye will have it, until you have all truth and are able to stand in My presence.4 For My word is as a refiner's fire, dividing the evil from the good, and sharper than a two-edged sword dividing asunder both bone and marrow.5 Repent therefore! Come unto Me, all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest.6 Call upon My name both day and night and repent of your many iniquities, and I will forgive you, and you will again be acceptable as My church.7 For there are many among you, even of your leaders, and those who call themselves your leaders, who are not acceptable in My sight, for they do corrupt the right ways of the LORD, and do pervert My doctrines which I have so plainly revealed to you in the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants.8 This they do because they have not the Spirit, and seek after the glory of the world and not My glory, for I see their works, and know their acts, and they are not of Me, and I have not sent them.9 Repent therefore, and come unto Me, and learn of My ways and I will be your shepherd and ye will be My sheep.Amen.

Here is a great site to help you start training early to become a god: http://phet.colorado...My_Solar_SystemWe've done things like that in Physics at school actually! It's really fun, although a lot of maths is involved! Also, using the parent-child analogy, children know that they have the potential to become parents when they're older, but that doesn't (or shouldn't) diminish their parents.

Olavarria Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Here's a quote from an official source:D&C 132:37 37)Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods. Obedience is the issue here, and that statement u quoted was made at a time when polygamy was a commandment. It isn't today. Neither is circumcision, animal sacrificing or boat making.Polygamy is not required by the Church now though, nor is it even allowed. The question should be whether or not it is required by the Lord. If it is, He hasn't made it known through the proper channels.
