  1. I compared it to one of our hymns. I was going to use a very similar quote from an apostle but I didn’t have enough spare lightning rods around to ensure my personal safety if I went with that route.
  2. Ad hominem, vituperative insults, easing the badger, poisoning the oil well, powering the flux capacitor, black hole diving, (insert random fallacy here), etc. Nothing of substance. Just a laundry list of things I said previously. No reason. And a long screed about Nazis when I specifically asked in the OP not to talk about Nazis. If you can’t respect the intent of the thread why post at all?
  3. Please don’t make this thread about Hitler. I explicitly asked everyone not to do that. 😈
  4. “I shall never believe that what is founded on lies can endure for ever. I believe in truth. I'm sure that, in the long run, truth must be victorious.” -Adolf Hitler Putting aside Hitler's polemics and politics (and I ask that you all do the same), I like his advice on this point. Things that are false will eventually fall. Focus on the truth. Focus on truth’s eventual victory. It is like the hymn we sing “Oh Say, What is Truth?” The truths contained within the restored gospel will endure all things. Very reassuring.
  5. I think it is a big leap from God didn’t do something to He can’t. I don’t think we can say they are rare either. What does that even mean to God who knows all things? It is not being “good enough”. It is becoming like Christ. I think there is something else there. I suspect it is one of those things where if I was told the answer I wouldn’t understand it.
  6. Remember that in the Book of Moses it was said this is the worst of all worlds. Maybe we are looking at a really biased sample?
  7. My unorthodox take is that Jesus and Adam and Eve came to the Father and said, “Okay, we don’t want to leave all the fallen behind. We have a plan. Can this work?”
  8. Mocking you is not acting tough. It is not even really challenging. It is fun though. Weak playground insults delivered with not sense of artistry or style and festooning the whole thing with grammar and spelling errors. You will have to do better than this if you want to graduate from Trolling 101. D-, see me after class.
  9. Fun fact: Anyone who describes himself as a real man is channeling the insecure little boy within. It is okay little guy. One day you will find your confidence and won’t have to throw silly internet tantrums to get attention.
  10. Are you hitting on me? I am a huge slut but even I have standards. Try a different approach next time if you want to win my affections little guy.
  11. Someone in the 1800s wrote something down along with other things that don’t match your quotes and it is somehow logical that everyone throughout Church history thinks completely in line with these cherry-picked quotes most members have never read? You’re not very bright are you? You are not even good at trolling. You’re doing the sad “declare victory” in every post approach that was briefly popular in the early internet wars of the early 2000’s and it was tired and hackneyed then. Get some new material so you can be at least mildly entertaining. C’mon son! Take some pride in your work!
  12. That is probably beyond human knowledge. C.S. Lewis took a stab at it in “Mere Christianity”. I am unconvinced by his reasoning since it was tied to the concept of the Trinity and to the Fall. I come closer to the rest of Christianity in seeing the Fall as tragic than most church members but not that far.
  13. Your condescension comes across as a little pathetic when it comes from someone who hasn’t mastered punctuation and capitalization. My conflicts and difficulties with the gospel are orders of magnitude beyond juvenile and puerile “gotcha” quotes from a (to quote a wizard) “witless worm”.
  14. Explain the quotes? They are quotes. Joseph Smith and Brigham Young probably said them. Good boy for digging them up on some site. Have a cookie. It would really be Mormonism for anyone over the age of about 170 considering when they were said/written. Of course a couple of random quotes don’t sum up the whole faith and you will find other quotes from both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young that are less absolute and you will find a verse in the Doctrine and Covenants talking about how some Christians who are not members are sincere followers of Christ. I guess you missed those. Not everyone over the age of 35 did though. Why are you so lazy compared to everyone else? So sad.
  15. Yeah, that is why Jesus was different when he was (sort of) mortal. I suspect there might be something in his premortal creation that was different as well. Maybe.
  16. No wonder you consider the Church to be a cult. You seem to sincerely believe we are all carbon copies of you with the exact same experiences except you are willing to tell the truth. And by the truth I mean venerate folklore teachings and scriptural rationalizations common a few decades back as absolute truth. So when do you think the Ten Tribes will return from beneath that glacier they have been living underground within?
  17. I suspect there was some kind of ontological difference between Christ and the rest of us. We just have no idea what it could be. On Earth it was being divine and mortal but I suspect there was some difference between His creation and ours. That is mostly a guess though.
  18. He volunteered for this insane rescue mission. Why would God oppose a noble impulse?
  19. I think someone grew up around a lot of fundamentalist McConkieites and is projecting their experience onto everyone in the church. I don’t agree with you. The one time I jokingly suggested to my Mission President that I was dusting my feet off on people he went pale and was probably about to tell me to knock it off before I told him I was joking. You weird.
  20. I was a bad influence on everyone. Sorry about that.
  21. Gul Dukat DID NOTHING WRONG!!!! Oh, wait, did you say Cardassian or Kardashian?
  22. He has been described as a confusion elemental and I think that is a fair description. He does the whole “just asking questions” bit and stares and speaks with a confused look on his face as if he just doesn’t know. The problem of course is that his questions generally do have answers but he insinuates that the truth is being held back. It is a rhetorical trick he is pretty good at it.
  23. For those unfamiliar with Tucker Carlson this trailer for his special “The End of Men” which is about how masculinity is dying and how sperm counts are down: Trigger Warning: Very odd and a little homoerotic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FTXEHBlx-U If you want a more upbeat version here is a recut someone I know cooked up using that song Trump loves to dance to at his rallies: Trigger Warning: You probably know what is coming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DgdD565-eU
