grapevine Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Or he says they did. Is he even still a member. I don’t think most members get visits from beyond the veil. If so they would keep it private. Not meant to guide church but inspire us to have those people visit him. Grandfather instructed him to settle custody disputes and foster care among cousins. Told him to gamble in Vegas. Won money than lost it so only had enough to get go home. Humbled by it reason. When Jesus visited him ten percent tithing not good enough ten percent blessings. Would give sister Jones sacrament on Wednesday but hesitant to boat with nonmember on Sunday. Jesus told him that. Jesus didn’t do things perfectly like his Father did. Though sinless. Changing moneychangers out of temple. Asked Joseph Smith about having pistol in Carthage. Joseph was too quick sometimes in announcing revelations. People he did work for personally thanked him. Wrote additional books of scripture. False doctrine to keep revelation like that private. Wouldn’t have much of scripture if that was case. Aren’t we told to keep things like that sacred? Even if it’s not for church members the lord won’t come through some random member and visit like he says they did. And if so we wouldn’t find out about it. General authorities counsel against what he says. Isn’t a prophet we know is called and General authorities, stake conferences and what we hear from those called good enough? He has been divorced and may no longer be active or member of the church. Nephi didn’t ask bishop for approval to kill Laban listened to Lord first. And another Betty Eadie playbook. Jesus didn’t badmouth other churches but said they were here to fulfill there purposes. Didn’t Jesus himself tell Joseph Smith not to join any of the churches, this is the only true and living church? Shakers only desired truth in part. Tolerance is we are civil to those not of our faith. No one is compelled to join the church. They do good things. But the Lord wants us to join his church. Does he want people to believe he’s three in one, baptism not necessary or other lies? If a Jew reads the Book of Mormon ok to be good Jew still. revelation doesn’t come through someone like him.
sunstoned Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Mike Rigby was my neighbor. I didn't know him well, but well enough to sit down and have him explain some of his experiences. I don't think even he believed the stuff he was selling. He had a good family, but they left him when he started practicing polygamy. He and his followers, one of which was my other neighbor, published a half-page ad in the Salt Lake Trib outlining their beliefs and how the Mormon church had become apostate. The Q15 instructed local leaders to hold court on all whose names appeared in the ad. Rigby and my other neighbor were excommunicated. I went as a witness for my neighbor to her court. I felt she didn't understand what she was getting into with Rigby. The Bishop was an old hunting buddy of mine, and his two counselors were also my friends. I pushed for leniency. The Bishop told me his hands were tied as he received instructions from SLC to excommunicate, and that's what happened. This was contrary to several public statements that state the brethren do not get involved or direct local courts of love. This was a huge shelf item for me. 1
ZealouslyStriving Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) About 20 years ago I read the "scriptures" he compiled, they were pretty intriguing- but at the time I was excited about anything shiny and new. I was told by someone in a group that I was later involved in that some of the writings closely resembled things their prophet had received and thus believed they were stolen and given to Mr. Rigby.
