Just guessing here, but the way the question is worded (with the inclusion of the phrase “for at least one year”) suggests to me that it is directed to individuals who are known to have struggled with pornography addiction in the past but have kicked the habit. Such persons might be required to show in some measurable way that they now have that tendency under control.

One would think this would then include a conditional “if” at the beginning of the question about having previously had a pornography problem. I still think if I were a bishop my response to the question would be: “None of your d*** business!”

Perhaps. I’m just suggesting a possibility. We don’t know what context there might be to this question or even if this person’s secondhand report is accurate overall. Calm wisely suggested we wait and see.

I quite disagree. The Church and its individual members have a right to feel confident that persons employed in Church Education are free of porn habits. It’s a matter of employee qualification. As a common judge in Israel, a bishop has a duty to ascertain that with a prospective employee.
