They were part of my conversion journey to Catholicism years ago. I was never a card carrying member (literally -- the cards granted immunity against federal drug laws involving peyote), but I sat up in many tipi ceremonies and a few sweat lodges. I had some very positive experiences and it opened my mind to the possibility of spiritual experience, which is way it was instrumental in my journey.
