Doesn't bother me - I simply find it interesting from a doctrinal perspective.

It was right then it was right when Joseph and others practiced it.

But it will likely come up in some of the chapters that the Come Follow Me lessons cover.  It seems weird to wonder why polygamy didn't come up when it wasn't in any of the chapters that were the focus of that week's study.

There are not many things I have a problem with the Church over but this is one of them that I have.  A lot of issues are not appropriate to discuss or cover in the limited time in Sunday meetings.  So I don't mind if polygamy is not discussed in the Come follow me lessons.  Probably not the best place for it.

However the Church does little to really expose members to the broader issues out there that Church members are going to face from time to time.  It would be great of the Church had a stake level Sunday evening discussion where anyone can attend and discuss any issue in a civil way.  Nobody is judged for not understanding an  issue or having a different perspective.  Bring lots of people of different backgrounds and understanding together is important as no one person knows everything.  Many people claim the church is hiding things from members.  I don't think that is true.  They do however ignore a lot of issue.  Ignoring things does not make things go away.  If I ignore a growing mass in my body, it is not going to stop growing.  I need to address it at some point.  The biggest advantage critics have over members of the Church is the shock value.  They bring up an issue they never heard about before.  Since the Church does little to counter it, it often gives the points to the critic and it adds up over time.

I completely agree.

It would be very helpful to have a safe place for members to discuss their questions and concerns face to face with other members. Too many members keep their doubts and questions to themselves or seek answers online. Often times they suffer in silence until they finally reach a breaking point and decide it's all false and leave the church. By this point its really hard to help them. But if there was a safe place for them to discuss these things while they still believed, then the odds of helping them work through their questions and concerns would go up significantly.

I can understand where you are coming from.  I was listening to a very good podcast last week and it brought up Miriam being cursed with leprosy for questioning moses.  It was actually both her and Aaron that questioned his authority but IIRC only Miriam was punished with a disease.  The speaker went on about how that response would have made perfect sense to the Israelites because of their culture (that strong reprimands from God would come with a physical consequences to them) and what a wonderful story it actually is because miriam was reprimanded (as she should have been), but she was cured after a little while, and the entire house of israel stopped and waited for her to be cured and purified and what a great teaching it was about how merciful God.  He chastises us when we need it but he also cleanses and purifies us when we repent, AND He will wait for us as we are going through that process.

It really was a great way to look at the story and I loved the symbolism of it.  I really did.

But all I could keep thinking about was "please explain why miriam was given leprosy for doing the same thing that Aaron did, without him being given it to.  Please help me understand that!"  But he didn't even go there.  Maybe because he had no good reason to give or maybe because he didn't even think about it, but either way, he was silent on it.

I don't fault him for not going there but at the same time, it really would have helped me if he could have.  Even if he didn't have an answer, even just acknowledging the different treatments would have given me a little something to work with.

100%

I imagine when the Church reinstitutes the practice, certain geographical areas will be more in favor and the areas loosing people who vote with thier feet will continue doing so

The LDS Church will not likely reinstitute polygamy, even if it becomes legal in the USA -- which is likely.  However, the Muslims will likely practice it broadly.

But Bruh - why not?

Fertility rates are dropping. War hawks are itching for another war. Surely, the hour cometh

It is not even a footnote in any of the Come Follow Me or Seminary lessons.

I'm ok with: silence = endorsement, in this case at least.

We haven’t had any classes yet that covered the chapters that include Abraham’s polygamy. I think this week is the first lesson that does. Guess we’ll see how it does.

I haven’t looked over the lesson manual yet. The podcast that I follow (Follow Him by Hank Smith and John Bytheway) had Dr. Dan Peterson on it this week, and he discussed it on there (but not in-depth).
