caspianrex Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 The most recent addition to my LDS library is an interesting triple combo of sorts published by the RLDS Church in the 1970s. Entitled Holy Scriptures of the Restoration, it contains the JST Inspired Version of the Bible, the 1966 edition of the RLDS version of The Book of Mormon, and the 1978 edition of the RLDS Doctrine & Covenants. It's about the size of an LDS "quad combo," with three ribbon markers. At the end of the Bible, there's a Concordance with a super small font. and there's an index at the end of the BoM (with a more humane font size). Those study helps are definitely inferior to the LDS editions of the Scriptures. It's not an edition I would likely read all that much, but it is an interesting addition to my collection. I first found out about the edition watching an excellent YouTube channel by a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Book of Mormon Editions. JLHPROF Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 You know, I don't say it to be mean, but I don't under the RLDS/CoC. When you are speaking of Christianity we have 2000 years since Christ lived and limited written record. It's easy to see why there are so many differing doctrines, sects, and belief systems within Christianity. I don't understand that where they RLDS/CoC are concerned. The historical records are there for everyone to read. What Joseph restored is clearly documented. I don't know how they can ignore half of the teachings and ordinances he restored and claim to be his successor. Other break offs I understand. They differ with the Church but on matters of interpretation and later divergence in belief. But that's different than not even acknowledging restored gospel elements existed.
longview Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Do the RLDS/CoC have the Book of Moses and/or Book of Abraham like that found in the LDS Pearl of Great Price? I read somewhere that Joseph Smith was making incremental inspired revisions to the OT and at one point he had two transcripts, one newer than the other. The older version was taken by the LDS as they moved west to SLC. Emma Smith retained the newer copy which contained such things as the age of Adam and Methuselah being 999 years and 6 months (different than what is in the Book of Genesis).

I haven't dug into this issue very deeply, but some of the material from Pearl of Great Price is incorporated into the Inspired Version of the Holy Bible that is included in this RLDS triple combo. Some other material is, I believe, found in the appendices that are at the end of their version of Doctrine & Covenants. So I think much, though not all, of the Pearl of Great Price can be found in this edition. Robert, who does the "Book of Mormon Editions" YouTube channel, to which I linked in my original post, goes into some more detail about that. 1
