In context (if I understand Brooks), one could say that it takes a community, and that's what the Saints are all about. I think we are naturally very social and need that interaction and sense of community. But what concerns me is that lack of individual accomplishment is also just as sterile and lonely. For example, there are a lot of young men out there, who are wasting away in front of the TV with a PlayStation controller in their hands...maybe he addressed that more fully, I only read the summary you posted.
