Ok now I understand why sister so and so successfully breezed through child rearing in the church program and I failed.

Not everyone is blessed with such noble organization skills to be able to handle all the requirements for righteousness :)

I looked on them as tested and organized ways to help me achieve worthwhile goals as a youth and then as a parent of 7, not as requirements for righteousness.

Only if they aren't having their own family time.  Inactive and disinterested families...less likely to be following the Church's programs, I suspect.

Noble goals, indeed. Inactive families can be very active in other ways.

Taking them away from their own family time?

Mutual took them away from their families too. What exactly are you looking for?

Ministering.

That's going to take some highly organized and coordinated efforts if it is going to substitute for interaction with youth leaders and peers.

That's the problem, isn't it.

Not really. While youth activities have value I have known almost no disaffected or weak family or potential convert youth that spiritually progressed without moving on to Sunday meetings.

Or the youth can associate outside of organized activities.

Okay, what mod added “dubious” to the thread title? I am not mad. I just want to know. ;)

I'm no moderator, but given the OP's authorship, "dubious" seems not only an accurate addition, but also a charitable one.

Was I just insulted? If so, good job, you phrased it well.
