rongo Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 We consecrated oil together as a district in the MTC, and that was my first time. My son consecrated his own oil the night before we took him up to college. He has used more than half of it, because his YSA ward ministers at the hospital, and he has been able to give many blessings. It was then-Elder Nelson who told us in the MTC when I was there that the reason only olive oil is used for blessings is because it is a stark symbol for the atonement. Gethsemane was an olive garden with an oil press, and just as the oil is pressed out of the olives, his blood was pressed from his body there under the weight of taking our sins and suffering upon him. That explanation from 1994 has always stayed with me. 3

It seems that sometimes that the Lord provides us with experiences that help us reinforce our testimonies of certain things. I've had a time or two when I've been performing baptisms in the temple that I've barely been able to get the words out. Other times, while I can feel the Spirit, nothing even close to that strong. 1
