Mormons in hawaii

Curious, anyone know why the Mormons are so loved in Hawaii?  Found out outside of Utah Hawaii has one of the Highest concentration of them.  Mom went to BYUH and wasn't even a member, was treated very well so I always wondered.  Impression I had was they were some of the nicer people to the natives vs. the protestants from the mainland who at the time could have a real racist streak.

Two of my dearest friends have endure, quakes, volcanic eruptions and flooding with the last four to five months.
