I was sincere in my expression of appreciation. And I was sincere in pointing out that the Mormon practice of doing ordinance work for the dead, altruistic at heart, is comparable in some respects.

Thanks for your “help.”

This conversation is finished.

I thought you wanted help with understanding why saemo might have responded that way. I was trying to explain why your expression of appreciation didn't come across as appreciation, because you seem to not understand how you came across. I was hoping that putting it out there point by point as you said you appreciate in another thread would help you understand my and possibly other's reaction. That is why I first asked you what your intent was with my first question. I wanted to make sure I was seeing you correctly without a negative assumption from the start.

I suspect the negative assumption was already present when you began your inquisition.

I'm sorry you felt it was an inquisition and that I had a negative assumption.  I try very hard not to make assumptions of others.

How would you have me communicate better in a situation like this?

Scott Lloyd is alluding to past conversations. He knows I don’t view them as the same, so it was a bit of a dig (sincerely given). No harm, no,foul.  I was, and am not, offended by LDS expressing what they believe.

I should have asked my question without quoting SL.

Thanks for this.

All verbal jousting aside, I will reiterate sincerely that I really am deeply appreciative about the bell ringing on the day of President Monson's funeral. I understand that this has happened in the past for other deceased LDS Church presidents as well. It reflects a spirit of love and good will.

The relationship between high LDS leaders and the leaders of the Catholic diocese in Salt Lake has long been exemplary, and that was particularly the case with President Monson who had a warm friendship with Bishop Wiegand.

Improved remarkably since the time of President McKay, but I view that era as a kind of anomaly, in regards to Mormon/Catholic relations in SLC.
