She posted and said it's something to think abTheout. I think she's right. Although this article is not LDS related, it relates point by point ironically. I guess a lot of faiths are struggling to keep the Millennials. I know all of my children are not interested in the church. And we raised them from day one in the church and rarely missed church. I don't know what happened. I think my own faith crisis saved me from having to face their bad feelings about the church. If I was a stalwart member I probably would have a nervous breakdown over these feelings they have. The article has some points that I hope all churches will take a look at. I am my kids so identify with this!! The good points that I keep from my former faith, my children do not agree with...but this speaks volumes about why! Preaching without listening is never going to work. Period. 1

I find your questions and this article quite odd. 2,000 years ago, I wonder if some denizen of Bethlehem thought "The world does not revolve around some child born in a stable, despite the wild claims of those shepherds. Nothing that happens in our little backwater matters one whit in the grand scheme of things..." And then, 33 years later, I wonder if some functionary working for Pontius Pilate thought "The world does not revolve around that Jewish fellow we crucified last week. I think we are all learning from generation to generation, and it is good and healthy. We've come a long way from the days of "Father Knows Best," which was an entrenched attitude at the time. The time we are in is hard on relationships. But the things we are learning about love, the Saviors mercy and Atonement, the futility of judging and telling people "You need to do THIS" are profound and invaluable. Our church IS listening. Let people have their path without labels. Love them. Influence with love and acceptance whether in or out of the Church. It is their life, after all. There is good in everyone we can acknowledge. Teaching in the Saviors way is an approach we can all learn. But like all aspects of the Gospel, we need Millennials and other people to resist us so we can learn how to communicate as Christ does. I think in many ways, we have been using Satan's plan to force obedience for a long time. And, as Elder Scott said "Forced obedience yields no blessings." Edited December 8, 2017 by Meerkat 1
