Saw a firestorm on social media, checked it out, and didn't see anything that seemed earth-shattering. I'm a type who likes to compare different versions of things (garment instructions in the TR recommend interview, For the Strength of Youth, etc.), so I'm curious what the changes indicate. Thanks!

rongo Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 A little bit more info . . . Not a big deal. It looks like a continuation of the "mission statement" -ization in the Church. I hate mission statements! It's a corporate mumbo-jumbo approach that gives the appearance of doing something concrete, while all that was really done was to craft a mission statement. Which is essentially like all of the previous mission statements. Reminds me of "ward mission plans," and the like. It's not like there will be a material difference on the ground by removing "personal righteousness" and replacing it with "ordinances and covenants." Or, putting an explicit atonement focus in writing (it's not like the atonement has been de-emphasized over the last few years). Enrichment night/homemaking (I know, I know, it's not called that any more. That changes pretty frequently, too) will still be pretty much as it has been. Same with visiting teaching. We can expect a new front page LDS.org article quoting women from around the world on this new purpose being a huge thing in their lives, thought . . . 1
