The only thing that will help those suffering are other people...not God. God gives people good ideas, and then it is up to people to choose whether or not to act on those ideas, if they can. So for example now that you know there are people who are starving in this world, God will give or has already given you a few good ideas on how you can do something to help them. And he has also given me some good ideas about that too. So now it is up to us to put God's ideas into action, while God will continue to be involved in both helping those people and helping us to help them too.

Brother Wortherspoon and the other panelists are very attracted to the idea that God is not omnipotent since it would solve the problem of evil. According to this theology, God empathizes with our suffering and can lovingly persuade but cannot do more than that to stop evil. God would make everything right if He could but he cannot. I agree that this does solve the problem of evil. In my view however, it sacrifices belief in miracles. I'm not comfortable with that. I like to believe that miracles happen. But then I have the problem of evil to deal with. If God can intervene, why is there still so much pain and suffering? Why does God help me find my car keys but let kindergarten children get gunned down by psychopaths? Kind of like what Ahab said, God can stop stuff but that isn't the point, we need to learn like God did at some point how to care about people and to stop things and he'll give us help to do it if we ask for it or work at it. Christ told Peter that he can get 12 legions of Angels to help the situation but he didn't. It's like that story about James? Moyle that guy who had a bum leg who walked miles and miles to work on the SLC Temple and it's this story of sacrifice which it is but it could also be used as a cautionary tale to help a guy out, where there no Temple carpools???? he was the only one working on the Temple, setus lupetus! help a guy out already!
