And the non-priests even saw the glory of the Lord (examples - Exodus 24:17; 40:34-35; Leviticus 9:23-24; Numbers 14:10; 16:9; 1 Kings 8:10-11; 2 Chronicles 5:14; 7:2). Temples are the place where Latter-Day Saints are taught how to converse with God face to face. Whether that actually occurs or not is up to the individual.
