Well, I am very educated.  I write.  I could never have written the Book of Mormon...even with all my education and writing experience...and with a computer.

I think you underestimate yourself.

I see a lot of posts decrying the Book of Mormon, or jabbing at it.

Let me just say that I I have a testimony of it.  I see things in it all the time.  For example, I read where the people asked for a second witness to verify veracity.  That is Jewish Law.  How would they have known Jewish Law?  How would Joseph have known it?

This is an LDS board....I just figured it was time for a pro-LDS post.

I love the LDS Church.  I fought it for 26 years.  I was wrong.  I finally feel at peace.

Scripture is in the eye of the beholder.

Do you think Muhammad, a nomad living in the eighth century AD could produce the Koran? Do you accept it as scripture?

Well...this is an LDS board.  You might not have known that.  See, LDS is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I know this board is an LDS board because it says so.  You may not have known that, either.  It is a simple mistake.

See, if I thought the Koran was Scripture, I would be on a Muslim board  Since I am not Muslim, I am not on their board telling them they are wrong and being negative all the time.

To answer your question, I have read the Koran cover to Cover.  I worked in a Law Firm owned and run by Muslims, so I read it and had long discussions with Muslims about it.  I encouraged them during Ramadan, helped plan their pilgrimage, and discussed Muslim issues.  No, I do not believe it is Scripture.  That is why I am here and not there.

In my life, I have way too much to worry about than go somewhere just to poke and be negative.  Frankly, I have too much self esteem to do that.  I am too happy to do that.

Once, when I was not happy, and I was bitter, and I had low esteem, I went to places where I could be negative.

Then I grew up.

Except you didn't really address the question.  Instead, you just doused Teancum's post with your condescension.  Could you have written the Koran?  No?  Does that inability then bestow the same validity to it that you ascribe to the Book of Mormon?  If not, why not?

Not true.  I was simply explaining.  And I DID answer.  She asked me if I believe the Koran was Scripture.  I answered that.  Thanks for reading my posts.  Read them more closely :)

:rolleyes:CB,I gave you a rep point for having all those years in education.  I only managed one quarter of college so my thoughts might not mean a whole lot.  Just wanted to say that I think ...a lot of us are invited to join you here on this LDS board.  I will try not to poke and be negative.  Thanks.

He asked you on the basis of your logic ("I could never have written the Book of Mormon").  You have not explained your inconsistency.  And it's there for all to see...

thank you.

Let met ell you, working in a Muslim firm was truly educational.  We had amazing discussions.  We discussed the Koran as I read it.  We discussed Bahai....we discussed radicals......we discussed and discussed and discussed.

Funny story...I was in a firm full of Muslims.  When I finally finished the Koran, I went in to see one of the Muslim partners.  I told him, "I finally finished finished the Koran cover to cover"  He smiled and said, "You might be the only person in the office who has done that".

I grew up in the home of a Baptist Minister. My father loved the scriptures, and cause me to love them too. At the age of 11, I began taking Bible lessons by mail. Our Church only one meeting (no Sunday School), so by the time I was 12, I was attending two different Churches each Sunday. I even began (or felt like I had been called) preaching in the Baptist Church at 19 years of age. I always had an unusual passion for all things "scripture". When I joined the Army and ended up in Germany, I was given a Book of Mormon. Just taking it from the hand of the person who gave it to me, took my breath away. That night I was on duty and I had to be awake all night, so I began to read. What I noticed is that the same Spirit that accompanied me as I read and studed the Bible, was with me that night. During that night I read through to Mosiah, and seven pamphlets that were given to me. On the day and the night which I received the Book of Mormon, I knew then that it would change and challenge my life...for the rest of my life. It is scripture, it is of God, it is true and it has changed my life.

The Koran is scripture. I cannot read it in Arabic and there are a variety of translations but the verses naming the 99 names of God is enlightening and beautiful. A good translation of that section provides hours of thought.

You keep talking about a theme of this being and LDS board.  Your opening sentences above are either intentionally demeaning or unintentionally foolish.  Yes this is and LDS board, We'll sort of but not really.  It is a board that has LDS themes but is open for discussions about LDS issues pro and con.  As long as people are respectful in their dialogue they can dispute LDS things and LDS claims.  If you want a board that is just all pro LDS maybe Meridian or LDS living is the place for you though I do not know if they have discussion boards.  I have been here a long long time.  I know the charecter of this board far better than you apparently  so I am not sure what your point is really.

But here people are allowed to challange LDS claims as well as promote and defend them.  It's really simple.  Did you think this was just and echo chamber board for LDS beleivers? Or are you just being intentionally obtuse?

I am LDS as well but am skeptical now about LDS claims as well as claims of other self proclaimed revealed religions. I have been active LDS most of my life.  I still attend.  I still hold a temple recommend.  Yet I have lots of questions about lots of thngs.  I am happier now than when I was a full beleiving Latter Day Saint.  I come here to challange and be challenged.   And many here have caused me to take pause and rethink my positions.

I asked you about the Koran because there are about a billion Muslims world wide.   How many are fully beleiving I do not know.   But I have read some commentary of what we might call testimonies of Muslim believers and they sound similar to your comment that there is no way Joseph could have created the BoM and that you said you could not do it with all your education and so on.  Muslims say they same thing. So I just wondered if you gave the same credence to their claims as yours,

We had similar backgrounds.  As a young kid, I lived a lot with my grandparents.  My grandfather was Catholic.  My grandmother was Baptist.  My mother was Lutheran.  I attended all three

I do not worry about Muslims.  I worry about my faith.  I let people believe how they choose.  I do not bash them.  I do not poke at them.  When I worked with Muslims, I questioned so I could learn...never in a demeaning manner (like I see here).  When I was a LTC in the military, my COL was a Jew.  He and I had many deep conversations about the Jewish Faith.  He was incredibly learned and knowledgeable.  What I learned from him I will treasure forever.

I am the only Mormon in my family.  Even my wife is not LDS.  I respect her faith and she respects mine.  She asks a LOT of questions.  I do my best to answer them all.  My parents are Lutheran.  I respect their faith.

I simply am content with my faith.  I am curious about those who feel the need to bash what I believe.   I would hope they are content with their beliefs and never feel the need to bash the faith of others.

I simply said that the people invoked Jewish Law.  How would people here know of Jewish Law id they were not of Jewish descent?  Also, that fact supports Joseph was translating as opposed to writing himself.

Can you explain the "Jewish Law" that was "invoked"?  I've heard about rules for witnesses in trials involving murder and such, but that seems to be a rather specific set of circumstances.

I don't think it's meant to be "If someone says something and then another person supports that claim, believe it no matter how unusual or crazy it sounds..."

I have explained it enough.  Thanks.
