Ghafouri said she saw joy in the faces of the women when they received their white dresses. “They feel we are respecting them because we have brought something very special, very specific to them,” she said. “It is a simple gift but for them it means a lot.”I like this. Hamba Tuhan Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I like this. That's my favourite part, too. Yesterday I spent the day helping lay to rest a dear sister from our ward. Only one member of her biological family was able to fly here for the funeral, a younger sister. At the afternoon tea following the burial, the sister was talking about how she and her people currently live in mortal fear of the crocodiles that plague their waterways. For thousands of years, they have maintained equilibrium between Man and reptile by selectively hunting and eating the crocodiles, but now conservation 'experts' have moved in and made it illegal for them to follow their traditional ways. Crocodile numbers have skyrocketed as a result, and several of their young people last year were taken by animals that now live too close to settlements. Our whole table then began to talk about how necessary it is for decisions to be made locally, by people who actually know situations and context (including historical context).
