Testimony!

If a testimony is something one knows is true - how can truth change if you don't work on it or receive contradictory information?

A testimony is a spiritual witness given by the Holy Ghost.

 

The truth doesn't change but one's testimony of it can be ignored, or forgotten, lost and/or destroyed. It can be nourished, remembered, restored and/or aided. While this is a personal and subjective dynamic, we can help or hinder others according to the Intercessory Prayer (John 17).

 

So if you don't work on your testimony, you cannot continue to work with the truth, whether you receive contradictory information or not. Working on your testimony and working with the truth are spiritual processes; receiving information is a mental process. Of course these two processes can overlap and operate concurrently (and with or against each other), but since we are primarily spiritual beings, our spirit and the Spirit drive the other processes entailed with building our relationship with God, and with using all He has given us in mortality (minds, bodies, etc.) to align with Him.

 

Those who use information (whether truthfully, factually or either/neither) over the Spirit are acting as a force to guide others away from their testimony.

If a testimony is merely a personal belief - I understand what you mean.

Is it possible that Sandra Tanner simply shares what she believes, personally, to be true?

Isn't that what most/all of us do?

A testimony can be based on feeling. These are the problematic ones. However, a testimony can also be based on spritual experiences that one has through prayer when one prays about the book of mormon etc. It is these experiences that people would find difficult to deny. But a feeling that the church is true is more problematic because 'feelings' are fleeting and interchangeable. The people that I mentioned in a previous post had strong spiritual experiences and these experiences molded them throughout their lives. One can say the same for the 11 witnesses. They also could not deny their spiritual experience that they had with the book of mormon regardless if they left the church and why they gave their testimony on their deathbeds if they were able to.

 

So, a testimony is not merely a personal belief. If so, the lds church would have fallen by the wayside long ago. The llds church is a church where members can have deep spriitual experiences that last a lifetime as the witnesses to the book of mormon demonstrate.

The truth doesn't change whether someone believes it or not.

 

A testimony is what you personally believe.

 

I can't speak to what others believe. It is one thing not to believe something. I'm fine with that. However it is quite another for Sandra Tanner who has spent much of her life in an Anti-Mormon Crusade. That I'm not fine with that .

 

I don't agree with the Buddhist religion, but I spend no time in a Christian Crusade against their religion. Let them worship how, where, or what they may.
