Tiki Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 And so it goes many becoming quite exercised and combative over an issue that is really irrelevant to the purpose and message of the Book of Mormon.I was quoting an individual who was combative..who claimed Joseph Smith learned the accurate location of Book of Mormon geography from a popular travel book 1.5 years before his life was ended. This book was so popular even then newspaper editor Edgar Allen Poe gave it a favorable review before having set eyes on it, thus the popularity of John Lloyd Stephens and his books. (Previously, Stephens had published books of his travels to Palestine making him famous, thus his appointment by Pres. Martin Van Buren to travel to Central America as an US Ambassador.)Since when do Prophets learn from the world? Since when does the Order of the Priesthood allow a Bishop to reveal to a Prophet the accurate location of the geography of the Book of Mormon via a gift of a popular book? That's combative. That may appeal to an LDS Academic, or even the OW movement. But that's what the LGT claims.
Tiki Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Really enjoyed the desperation revealed here evidenced by the race cards. Congratulations. As I understand it, a race of Israelites (Jews) landed in Mesoamerica after fleeing from Jerusalem and converted to pseudo-Mesoamerican Mayas. How anti-semitic.
Robert F. Smith Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 That's an insane picture. Who dresses like that?Yes, and without an appropriate mustache. 1
livy111us Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Tiki, you like to mock the fact that Joseph Smith found evidence of The Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica by reading Stephens and Catherwoods book on Mesoamerica. But you fail to grasp the fact that he did the exact same thing when he read Josiah Priest's book American Antiquities. Not that evidence will have anything to do with your decision I just though you might like to know the hypocrisy of your statement. 1

Book of Mormon geography really has nothing to do with the order of the priesthood.

livy111us Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 ERayR, Tiki is not known for his critical thinking skills. He has his answer and only finds "evidence" that helps that answer. Instead of coming at it with the questions and finding evidence to come to a conclusion, he does just the opposite. Even when you show him to be completely wrong; he'll ignore you and then bring up that same point later as if nothing has happened. I have a very hard time taking him seriously. 1

I also notice a couple of other with that approach. When posters themselves are critiqued instead of the topic it is time to close the thread.
