Don't see the logic. Assuming that God created the general form and function of men and women's body doesn't imply to me that he individually adjusted some to have birth defects. If one believes (and I recognise that is a huge "if") that homosexuality is a departure from the original form and function, an abnormality (not in the statistical sense), then there is no requirement that God "made" them that way rather than just allowed it to happen.

Otoh, it is obvious that sexual reproduction was intended by God from the beginning even if (assuming the fall story as sufficiently historical) it did not occur until after the fall.

A good question. I understand and believe there are several theories identifying evolutionary advantages and benefits as to why many species of animals developed sexual reproduction (i.e. genetic diversity).

If one presumes that "God made both males and females, there must have been some reason for that," then one could equally assume that since "God made both heterosexuals and homosexuals, there must have been some reason for that. Otherwise, why do homosexuals exist?"

In similar fashion, I believe there are several theories identifying evolutionary advantages and benefits as to why homosexuality manifests in many species of animals (i.e. kin selection).

Additionally, I think one could make the case that "celestial procreation" is not an exact mirror of "mortal procreation"--not subject to the same genetic, evolutionary limitations (i.e. the process of "organizing intelligences into spirit children" would probably be different than the mortal procreative process.... for starters, "celestial bodies" do not have blood flowing through their veins, do not need physical sustenance, are presumably not subject to genetic mutations, etc).

There may be a lot we do not know about celestial procreation, but what we do know is that “it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things… otherwise all things must have vanished away.”

 

In my opinion, as far as procreation goes, the male and female union establishes “a compound in one” that brings about God’s eternal purposes (“the immortality and eternal life of man”). Male-male and female-female unions establish no compound since the elements are identical and cannot produce human life.

 

Two antonyms for “compound” are “division” or “separation.” Without the unity or “at-one-ment” of the compound, the purposes of God are not fulfilled but broken apart. As the scripture states, “it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility… a thing of naught …no purpose in the end of its creation.”

 

Masculine and feminine traits are not the same as male and female traits in terms of procreation, so these compounds don’t serve the higher procreative purposes of God. The marriage covenant is necessarily, according to the law of opposition, structured around the latter, and may be fulfilled in this life or the next or both.

 

So sexual orientation, like masculinity and femininity, really has no bearing on the covenant. It does have a bearing on whether one is enticed to procreate or not. Enticement in either direction is part of how the law of opposition plays out in other aspects of the pre-Fall, Fall, and post-Fall probationary environments, since “the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself” in every aspect of life.

 

Those who act on their sexual orientation with (or without) integrity according to the light they have will be judged or assisted by God according to the light that He has.
