Anakin7 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Has any critique or review been produced on this polemical book entitled - "Breaking The Mormon Code : A Critique of Mormon Scholarship" By Matthew Paulson. Mr Paulson [A Lutheran] lived in my city a # of years ago and has been involved in anti LDS [and cult polemics] for many years now. He and Louis Midgely had a letter exchange for a period of time in the past. Mr Paulson in his polemical work responds to the supposed works of those at BYU and the Old Time F.A.R.M.S professors/scholars that there research is poor and not of any worth, which includes that scoundral Dan Peterson. Thank you in advance for any references. In His Debt/GraceAnakin7
Anakin7 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 I should have said "Of" This Polemical Book instead of "By" This Polemical Book, sorry. In His Debt/GraceAnakin7
thesometimesaint Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Never heard of him. But I don't doubt that he is of the same caliber as some of our more vocal critics.
Freedom Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I wonder if he applies the same scrutiny to the scholarship of his own scholars.
Anakin7 Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 This polemical book has been under the lds apologetic radar and has been out for apprx 6 years I think. A google search will display the book. In His Debt/Grace Anakin7 LDS JEDI KNIGHT
Calm Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/publications/review/18/2/S00008-343419753-18-02.pdfSee page 253" Instead, the “code” in the title of this book is what Paulson describes variously as “the Church Education System Honor Code” (p. 271 n. 892), “their Mormon code” (p. 271), or “the BYU Honor Code” (p. 271)—that is, the code of behavior required of students attending Brigham Young University. On virtually every page of his book, Paulson strives to demonstrate that “FARMS contributors and BYU professors have repeatedly, either knowingly or unknowing, violated” the terms of the BYU Honor Code (p. 272). Paulson classifies every defense of the faith and the Saints found in the FARMS Review as manifestly dishonest"Not impressed. Edited December 30, 2013 by calmoriah
