The church doesn't need to own KSL and BYUtv in order to broadcast conference, they could simply purchase the program time slot or broadcast it to the stake centers as they do now. The motivation for the Church has always been to spred the Gospel. Sure we "could" just pay someone else to do it, if they wanted to. That has not always been the case. I "can" call a taxi any time I want to go somewhere. But it is not as convenient, and is much more expensive, than just owning the car in the first place.

But it is not as convenient, and is much more expensive, than just owning the car in the first place.So the church employs hundreds of people each year to work on Sundays in its various media outlets so that it can save a negligible amount on its KSL broadcast of conference? I'm trying to find the logic in this. Using your analogy, wouldn't it be better to take a taxi rather purchase a car if you're only going to use it twice a year?
