There are some of us who almost live on the board, but that doesn't mean that others can't take time if they need it.  Just look for the thread when you come back, if it is more than several days you might need to go in search of it...but if you forget, I bet there will be posters here that won't.

I checked "other" on all 3 items.

 

While official doctrines, teachings or beliefs of the Church may change, the only ones we need to be concerned with are those that are presented to us in our lifetime. It is a living Church, we sustain the living prophets, and the Holy Ghost operates upon her faithful members in real time and place (the bounds of our habitations).

 

My reaction or response to a MAJOR change would entirely depend on how faithful I am at the time.

 

When previous general authorities are recorded as teaching a doctrine that is no longer accepted, we need to remember that the only doctrines they needed to be concerned with teaching were those that were given to them during their lifetime. If any former doctrine is no longer accepted, they are not relevant for us to follow. While some of the options you listed could apply as exceptions, tthe rule rather than the exception is the option that both the former and current doctrines on a particular matter are correct for their respective time and place. Again, we are only responsible for following and sustaining the living prophets and their teachings, and for having the Holy Ghost to help and guide us in doing that.

   AMEN!  Many years ago, when I was fairly new in the church, a man with whom I had been having many discussinons about my recent conversion, showed me a paper upon which was written a quote from Brigum Young having to do with the Adam-God doctrine. Although I had not previously seen it in writing, I had vaugely heard about it. He very pointedly asked me if I believed it.

After reading it and trying to figure it out I simply told the man,"We don't teach that." He seemed to be shocked! "What do you mean you don't teach that! This is a statement from one of your prophets! Do you mean to say that you don't believe what he's saying?"

I told him that I didn't know what it ment, and as far as I knew, that doctrine was not being taught today, as such I was under no obligation to believe it, nor did I have any compulsion to even study it.

   After almost forty years "discussing" all the variables of Church history and doctrines with the nay-sayers i wish I had kept in mind that point of view.

I have endevered to try and get others as interested in apologetics as I have been. But now I've come to the realization that we don't need to know everthing every past prophet or apostle has said! We have the Bible, The Book of Mormon, The D&C and the POGP. If any changes in how we should interpet them come about. thats why we have prophets and apostles, who can continually update us if needed! 

In another thread it talks about "hidden history" in the Church as if the Church should be giving us collage courses on every aspect of church history ,as well every statement ever said by a GA. I personally think that three hours on a Sunday is sufficient.

All that other stuff is out there if we're really interested, it just isn't necessary for our salvation.
