Darren10 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 The US healthcare system is not considered to be anywhere near the top except in one category, it is quite true that it is considered the most expensive on the planet. America uses a different method of rationing healthcare than most countries its called money. But sorry I seem to have derailed my own topic. I was fascinated by the comment about the ten tribes, will they bring their own Prophets with them so there will be multiple churches? That's incorrect. The US medical system has a higher mortality rate with infants only because the US has the highest of standards in counting a person "alive". The US has the highest survival rate from cancer despite American's horrific dietary habits (mine included), and America has a very high rate of doctors seeing their patience in life threatening situations. In Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, people Ned to wait very long times to get their medical care when in grave circumstances. The best medical care in the US is in medical systems such as the Rocky Mountain Health Systems and the worse you'll find are among Indian reservations and Veteran's hospitals. The former is privately funded and the latter government funded. Hmmmmmm.......
Darren10 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yeh, America is exceptional all right, exceptionally violent!! Mobbing Mormons was entirely normal for Americans, and when Americans weren't killing the Mormon prophet, they were busy slaughtering Indians, or slaughtering each other in the Civil War. Was it H. Rap Brown who correctly said that "violence is as American as apple pie"?Mormons have become accommodationists ever since the end of polygamy, and Mormons are even more "American" ("Republican") than any other Americans! Yet, it makes no difference. Mormons are still lied about, mocked, and laughed at in derision. Now that most Mormons do not live in the USA, and most Mormons do not speak English as their first language, perhaps the American exceptionalism albatross will go by the boards. Maybe not.And despite all this the Mormon Church has flourished in the United States, brought peace to the world like no other nation, has changed and embraced a better tomorrow like no other, has blessed the world with a vision of freedom, technology, innovation, and goods and services cot the average person like no other. Is there another nation by which their members have been mob attacked, leader assassinated, and still lied and mocked about and still flourish like the LDS Church? And, of course, you're assuming that the LDS Church is not mocked and lied about in other nations.
The Nehor Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Even though I do not know of a scripture that specifically says so, it is my opinion that Great Britain is exceptional. See my avatar? I'm sure you know his Hymn - Jerusalem. I don't give him quite the standing of Joseph Smith but I consider him an enlightened man. Enlightened by the Spirit of God. I wish we had a song about America like that. it brings tears to my eyes. That was my mission anthem.
Darren10 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Here's a scripture I think is relevant: (2 Ne. 29:11-12)The Book of Mormon talks about some of the plans God has for those in the Promised Land of the Nephites. I think that God has spoken to other nations and told them ways that they are exceptional and fit into his plans as well. The only two areas of the world I am aware of where we have a written record of God's promise of protection upon the inhabitants so long as they remain faithful to Him (YHWH) is the Middle East, namely Israel, and the Americas. In the latter, no one in history his witnessed so many national blessings than those poured upon the United States.

Darren10 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Edit to add: Regarding health care, I miss walking my boys across the street from our home in Germany to visit the doctor's office, which occupied the first floor of his home, and pay 30 euro for a check up and physical. That's it. No insurance necessary, even though I was paying Blue Cross for it.I guarantee you that overall you pay far more for your health are I those countries via your taxes to fund medical care than what you would overall in the US. The US is not slated to pay those high taxes until after 2914. Taxes already in place have lead to job layoffs and less services.

The Nehor Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I am a big believer in American exceptionalism. It is scriptural. According to scripture it means we live on the edge. We get all kinds of blessings but if we screw up we fall much harder then nations in the Old World. We get swept off while they endure. Also, hate/love to bring this up but the Promised land includes Mexico, Canada, and Central and South American nations too as they too are part of the Promised Land. Brazil and Cuba can lay claim to American exceptionalism too. The United States is the greatest nation on earth but that could easily change unless we repent. In fact Book of Mormon prophecy outright states it will change unless we repent. I am worried we may like old Rome drone on about our virtue and uniqueness when we have long since lost our virtue. We are not there yet. At least I do not think so. 2
