The Nehor Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Has the LDS Church ever made any statements on DEBT and/or individual self reliance ? Would such statements have any application to state or national situations? Maybe some members just assume there is a connection from individuals to governments when there really is not.I am not convinced that there is any such extrapolation. Most people who hold "conservative" views want to cut taxes by a large margin and cut spending in relatively insignificant ways so if they had their way national debt would increase.
blackstrap Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 What have Nations and individuals done in the past couple of decades from a fiscal perspective that have gone against admonitions from the Lord and His prophets ?I'll start : 1. waged unwise and unprovoked war 2. assumed unreasonable debt 3. dug a pit for their neighbors 4. coveted their neighbor's house / resources etc. etc. I really do think there are similarities between how an individual wisely uses income and debt to benefit the family and how a wise government does so to benefit its constituents. The laws of prosterity apply to all.
