RadioFreeDeath Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hey my hometown. Awful 6 months we have had.

After all the curse placed on the South for the murder of Parley Pratt was lifted long ago.
Senator Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Time to lift the curse? After all the curse placed on the South for the murder of Parley Pratt was lifted long ago.I was thinking the same thing. How benevolent would that be?Neal Maxwell lifted the curse over the eastern region of the US as recorded in the D&C during my mission in PA. I was there, witnessed it. It was cool!
Scott Lloyd Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 As I recall, somebody (don't recall who) lifted the curse from western Missouri as well. It will soon have a temple.
cdowis Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I believe that Orson Hyde was the one who put a curse on Regensburg in Germany.

Robert F. Smith Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I believe that Orson Hyde was the one who put a curse on Regensburg in Germany.Hugh Nibley did something similar while on his Swiss and German mission, only to return to the devastation there much later as an Army Master Sgt, but I cannot recall the citation in either of his biographies.
Xander Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Ah, the early Mormon magic worldview remembered. 1
Frenchy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Ah, the early Mormon magic worldview remembered.Seriously? Yes, the whole "god will make you pay for your sins" very mystical, very old, and very Mormon. You just don't hear this kind of talk in any random church nowdays.
frankenstein Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) So Hyde abondaned his property and wanted to be paid for property he had willingly left behind? Also, 20k seems pretty steepEdit: found a different article Hyde had arranged the sale of the mill, but never recieved payment Edited February 11, 2012 by frankenstein
Mike Reed Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Yes, the whole "god will make you pay for your sins" very mystical, very old, and very Mormon. You just don't hear this kind of talk in any random church nowdays.Indeed. "Random churches nowdays" have progressed beyond superstitions like ringing church bells to drive off storms and evil spirits. I'm pleased that this superstition is now discouraged in Mormon culture.
