zerinus Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 The Church published a computerized version of the scriptures a couple of decades age which was much talked abut, and is in fact a very useful tool. I would be stuck without it for forum activity, preparing talks and lessons, etc. At first they produced a DOS version of it which was brilliant. Afterwards they produced a Windows version of it on a CD. See here and here. And here are images of the case cover and the CD:But now that product seems to have been discontinued. I have search for it everywhere on the Church's websites and distribution center and online book stores etc., including Deseret, and I can't find it any more. I can't understand why the Church would want to discontinue such a good product, on which so much work must have been spent. Does anybody know anything about this?

I can't understand why the Church would want to discontinue such a good product, on which so much work must have been spent. Does anybody know anything about this?I'm no expert on this issue, but the Church may have discontinued the production of disks when they began making digital versions of the scriptures available online. I know a good many LDS members who have all the scriptures downloaded on their various electronic gadgets, which they use at Church. Many also have the LDS Hymnbook downloaded and use it also during meetings. I myself got a Kindle for Xmas, and am still trying to figure out how to download the Scriptures and Hymnbook onto it.Go to http://www.lds.org/scriptures/formats?lang=eng , and see if that helps. Even if you don't use any pocket-sized electronic gadgets, you can download the Scriptures on your home computer. There is also a powerful text retrieval and analysis program available free from BYU at http://www.wordcruncher.com/wordcruncher/default.htm . Take a look at the Overview and see if it fits any of your needs in analyzing Scripture.
Jeff K. Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Disks are going the way of VHS's when you can download from the internet.
Nathair/|\ Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 You can also download MP3 audio files of the scriptures for free from the same site.

zerinus Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Thanks all- great backup for when internet may not be available or for those without regular access or slow connections! This product is superior to the online version of the scriptures available on the Church's website; but you need to learn how to use it to get the full benefit from it. I am disappointed that it is no longer available on CD though, because most Church members will not become aware of it otherwise. Edited January 27, 2012 by zerinus
