Storm Rider Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Stormrider, you seems little over zealous in your statements,"The only reason" really, you know "the only reason" the LDS Church bears the brunt of criticism...could it also be that LDS Leader commanded/instructed LDS in California to do a certain thing? Could it be that the LDS called for a block vote of its people, which in the eyes of many violates Tax Exempt rules? (It have never been determined whether the LDS violated United States Federal Tax rules, but what the Church did with prop 8 provides a reasonable basis for taking the position that the LDS did in fact run afoul of the Tax code)"The LDS Church stands with the majority condemning the perversion of homosexuals and their morally bankrupt positions."Is non-discrimination based on sexual orientation a morally bankrupt position? Just curious as to your thoughts on The LDS Church Officially supporting the SLC ordinance which prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation. Is the support of insurance benefits to ssm partners morally bankrupt, since by supporting the benefits one is supporting the ss relationship? Why does the LDS Church bear the large portion of criticism, because it made the biggest waves, in money, training, in-kind donation etc.You stretch credulity. I have never been commanded by any in leader in the church, nor has any other member been commanded. We can be encouraged, but we are never commanded. If we choose not to follow it is our God-given right to do so. You twist reality to meet your objectives, but it has nothing to do with reality. Good propaganda though. That is utter BS. The Church earned the ire of gays because it is the LDS Church. The Black churches were just as active and guess what? Not a bloody peep of criticism from gays. WHY? Because they know how to use marketing as well as anyone else. Why pick on a minority when you can pick on the cult? Do be so naive and do not expect us to swallow your drivel. Just tell the truth.
Ron Beron Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 CFR that the United States Government conducted an investigation regarding the LDS Church finacial activities concerning prop 8. There is evidence enough for reasonable minds to differ as to whether the LDS Church violated federal laws. Please please please try to understand that the tax discussion was ONLY brought up refute storm riders claim that people make issue of the church involvement with prop 8.Agreed, but then we need to agree that the only question is whether the church had the right to direct activities against what they saw was a moral imperative.
california boy Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 You stretch credulity. I have never been commanded by any in leader in the church, nor has any other member been commanded. However it happened, members of the Mormon church provided 50% of the money and 70% of the volunteers. Once again, can you name another church group that provided 50% of the money and 70% of the volunteers. Maybe Mormons don't think their effort to pass prop 8 was any big deal, but those that support marriage equality do. You are going to have to convince those that support marriage equality that 50% of the money and 70% of the volunteers is insignificant in getting a proposition passed. Good luck.
california boy Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Agreed, but then we need to agree that the only question is whether the church had the right to direct activities against what they saw was a moral imperative.Yeah this moral imperative which make NO ONE more moral. By not allowing gays to marry does not make them more moral and it does not make straight people more moral.
Storm Rider Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 lol you just don't get it do you. However it happened, members of the Mormon church provided 50% of the money and 70% of the volunteers. Good luck. You just don't get it do you?!? Who exactly voted for this Proposition? Did just Mormons vote? Did Mormons hold a gun to everyone's head forcing them to vote a certain way? Oh, I know, Mormons are just so likable everyone listened to their position and ignored the bleeding hearts of the gay couples who were "in love" for 14 minutes before they moved on their next daily conquest of self-satisfaction. Yeah, right. You really think this is real? Give me a break. The voters of California voted their own mind, their own beliefs, and their own opinion. Guess what? The majority of American does not support your flaming cause at present. But don't give up, with Hollywood telling citizens in every show that Gays are just like you and me, it will not take much longer before black is called white and evil good, perversion will be normal, and those who wallow in filth will rejoice that the muddy waters of debauchery flow freely. And gays have the temerity to ask why we care!
frankenstein Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Stormrider speaking of drivel thanks for all that you have provided here, and as an active lds person myself and on behalf of many other active lds don't expect us to accept your drivel either. The most disappointing thing about the post prop 8 after math is that too many lds are playing crab in the bucket and are trying to pull every else down with them I.e. "blacks, catholics, Jews etc voted for it too"Yet what you fail to accept is that no other world church issued an edict against prop 8. And as to whether it was a command or not that is debateable. A lds person who actively worked against prop 8 would have reason to believe their status in the church could be in jepordy due too at least 1 temple rec question.

And gays have the temerity to ask why we care!I don't think anyone is denying the fact that gay marriage lost the popular vote. And I don't think that anyone is saying that because Mormons VOTED for prop 8 as the reason it passed. If that was unclear to you, perhaps I have cleared that up for you? If you haven't gotten the truthful reason by now, me restating it is not going to help is it.I don't think you insulting gay couples that choose to marry is going to help you with your position either. Quite frankly it just seems desperate. And as far as your misstatement about the majority of Americans not supporting equal rights for gays to marry, well you are WRONG. Every major polling service in this country has reported that the MAJORITY of Americans favor equality for gay couples to marry. Here is the link to the latest Gallup poll. There is a simple graph for you to follow.http://www.gallup.com/poll/147662/first-time-majority-americans-favor-legal-gay-marriage.aspxIn the end, equality will win out. It always has. Hope this helps clear things up for you stormrider.
thesometimesaint Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Presentism isn't a good arguement for support.
