Missionary Work In The Philippines--Negros Island

An associate needs help. He is a doctoral student who is researching and writing on the Unitarian/Universalist Church and the Negros Island in the Philippines. He'd like to grasp the larger picture of his study, and thinks perhaps a comparative analysis with LDS missionary work might help him fill in the blanks for his study of the Unitarian/Universalists Church[es]. In other words, he will not be writing on LDS missionary work itself, but he hopes that understanding the sort of things that LDS missionaries were dealing with might shed light on what Unitarian/Universalists might have also been dealing with. He is looking for a wide variety of material (missionary/cultural/language manuals, statistical reports, newspaper articles, etc), that focuses on the time period between the 1950s and 1970s. My brother served in the Tacloban mission, which is the most southernmost next to the Mindenao chain that has inherent danger issues that preclude missionary work (Muslim extremists, Al Quaeda affiliates, etc.).

As I recall, missionary work didn't start in the Philippines until the mid-1960's. Even in the late 70's when I served there, there were many islands and other large regions that didn't have missionaries.

Good luck in finding information. But even then, there might not be anything useful for your friend.

Are the Negros islands anywhere near there?

About 100 miles (Tacloban City to Bacolod City direct by air) to the West South West. The island of Cebu is in between.
