Maidservant Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) Well, I don't know doctrinally. But I've never improved upon understanding how salvation works than by the sign of the growth of a plant (for example). I return to that sign or key again and again in order to have understanding. As a gardener, we MUST plant. We MUST water. We MUST make many decisions and do many works for the fruit we are wanting to enjoy as a result of our garden. However, when it comes right down to it, we are not the ones who invested that seed with the mystery of life, nor are we the ones who micro-manage the unfolding of that miracle of that plant from seed, to sprout, to bud, to flower, to fruit, to seed(s) again. It simply remains mysterious and is what it is beyond our touch or direction. But we can't be a part of that mystery unless we engage by our doings, that is, to be a gardener. In His Debt/Grace Anakin7 LDS JEDI KNIGHTMaybe it was at http://mormon*****.***/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12083&p=303304, where they were discussing the so-called "Prosperity Gospel." John Larsen recently delivered a paper in Ogden at the Sunstone Symposium. It was entitled "Mormonism and the Prosperity Gospel" (Aug 4, 2011), but I didn't get to hear it.The Law of the Harvest is "As you sow, so shall you reap" (Galatians 6:7). Cause and effect. The false gospel of piety = prosperity is a common one for a number of religions, but a quick perusal of "reap" in a biblical concordance dashes any hope that it is a dependable rule in this life. For God makes his rain to fall upon the just and the unjust. Fortunately, Job did not believe the false prosperity gospel, despite prodding from his "friends."The most balanced approach to the entire matter is to be found in a little book by Stephen Robinson, Believing Christ (Deseret Book, 1992), still in print.
