How Did Joseph Smith Learn Christianity Was In Error?

hahaha....

Hi MF (is it okay to abbreviate your name that way?):

Your comment about "altar calls" reminded me of my own younger brother and his wife. He was Lutheran, and she was RCC. In the mid 1980's they went to a "Harvest" held at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. While there, they became "born again" Christians. I don't know what type of Christians they then considered themselves to have been before that event.

Now, I had converted to the LDS faith back in 1974 from the Lutheran church. Though I was baptized again when I became LDS, I never considered myself as changing from Christianity to...well...Christianity by joining the LDS Church. For me, I was changing denominations as I had finally found one that agreed with what the Bible had been teaching me my whole life. Much like Joseph Smith, I had been searching - my search, from the time I realized the Lutheran church's doctrine was very different from what I had personally learned, took nine years. I had the most amazing experience with the Holy Ghost (with whom I was already familiar with experiencing throughout my life), when I prayed about the Book of Mormon.

Interestingly (and sadly), it wasn't until after my brother and sister-in-law became "born again", that they started to attend Calvary Chapel. At that time, in their eyes they suddently considered me damned and demonic.....sigh. It has been the same with them ever since.

Best regards,

jo

The problem of course is that for EV's, it's ok to receive personal revelation about unimportant stuff- but NOT to choose which church is right. I am not quite sure what you are supposed to do for that problem since the whole notion is so foreign to me.

But then you have the problem of receiving an "altar call" from a minister to come up and be "saved". The problem is- how can you know what he is offering is "true salvation" without feeling the Holy Spirit tell you it is?

So they are contradicting themselves- not supposed to follow revelation for the Moroni 10: 4 experience, but it's ok to do so if a minister tells you you need to be "saved" and you feel it in your heart.

I can't figure this one out, and every time I bring it up, the EV's run the other way.

Mr. Bukowski,

Naw. I've answered this before.

Please post a summary of your explaination or move on. Defenders of the LDS faith have a great deal of practice repeatedly answering the same questions over and over. Show the same courtesy to those who do not recall or have not seen your answer to this issue. -Ares

Accusations of lying or implications that posters have lied have been deleted. If someone refuses to address a CFR then let that answer stand for itself.

My patience with posters accusing each other of lying is very thin.

It looks like this is going to be another one of those instances of avoiding that issue.

I believe is was Mr. Bowman, not Mr. Hamblin, to whom Vance was referring. He can certainly correct me if I am in arror.

Thank you - I corrected my post. Good thing we don't preach moderator inerrancy around here.

Well, with Bowman's comments (now deleted), and the passage of over 19 hours, and with Bowman posting on other threads as recently as 5 hours ago, I think it is safe to say what it looks like.

I would love for what it currently looks like to be wrong. Only time will tell.

I started a new thread for the topic since it is distinct from the OP of this thread. Hopefully Rob or other non-LDS Christians who argue against the authority of the LDS Church will be willing to explain their POV.

Not totally deleted- I posted a link to one of the threads on the new thread.

There was another one called "Moroni's Proimise" something- I searched for "bowman altar call" and that lead to the threads. Don't have time to really research it, but there is plenty there including some good posts you posted about his avoidance.
