Libs Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I see the critics, over and over, describe the highest level of Exaltation as something like that awful cartoon, where a "god" and "goddess" have dominion over their own little planet and eternally pro-create (spirit babies crying all over the place!). I have tried to tell some of my friends, who are critics, that I don't think that's a very accurate description of what most LDS believe. I am told, I am just plainly wrong, and most do believe this. I'm pretty sure there is no solid doctrine on exactly what Exaltation will be like. Only hints here and there, which some people have taken and expanded upon, to develop their own little theories. I was never taught that we would be given a planet and eternally pro-create, but maybe my Ward just wasn't with it...who knows? So, what do you all believe about Exaltation and what do you think of the critics portrayal of it? Is it, more or less, accurate or way off base?
HiJolly Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I think that we attain to the same type of status as our heavenly Father, which means we will create an entire universe of our own. The Pearl of Great Price doesn't really leave any other option, IMO. The reference to having or creating our own planet comes from an early talk by a GA that said it. I think it's in the Journal of Discourses. Whoever he was, he was thinking way too small. HJ 1

He will remain our God and Father throughout eternity. As such, we will work to glorify him throughout eternity. It seems like we could participate in the further expansion of creation; that can take numerous different functions. The bottom line is the most we can say is what I stated first. What does God do for eternity? That is what we will assist in.
BCSpace Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I think the "planet thing" is just scoffing yellow journalism. However, as per string Theory, I would like to be able to create whole universes by smashing two branes together when I become a God.
Libs Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Yes, I have read some about string theory. It's very fascinating.Just like God is much bigger than most of us imagine, so is physical reality. Much bigger than we even first imagined...You know, a lot of Christians believe it is blaspemous to suppose we can become a god, presiding over worlds, universes, etc. They believe there is only One God, and there cannot be another.I don't, personally, disgard the idea that we could become creators of some kind...actually, I think we already are, to some degree. We get our creative abilities from our Creator, I believe. But, creating whole universes? I don't know.
