Question For Arab Scholars

I was looking around not minding my own business, when I seemingly stumbled onto what appears to be an account/myth/legend, etc. that Adam had "the Ark of Covenant (tabut) in which the Knowledge (al-'ilm) and the Will (asiyya) had been deposited." (Apologies for not having the proper script). The questions that I have are:

1) What is Adam's tie to the Ark?

2) What is the tie of that Ark to that of the Mosaic Ark (or is it the same?)

2) What is the "knowledge" referring to?

3) What is the "will" referring to?

Thanks,

PacMan

Islamic lore is full of these kinds of legends, and it is impossible to know how much of it is fact and how much fiction. It is more like a lot of fiction mixed with a grain of truth. If you go back and read that article from the beginning, it more or less explains it.

Zerinus,

The problem is that I don't what these terms really mean. If there's something that I missed, I'd be more than grateful if you pointed it out. Frankly, it all seemed like a jumble of legend without much of a coherent explanation.

That is about right. I don't know what you are expecting to get out of it.

In Masonic lore, Adam passed on his secret knowledge to Enoch, who in turn hid them in pillars of stone and bronze in order to survive the coming deluge.

It is an Islamic example of a chain midrash. It serves to link together the past. A Jewish example links Adam with the Baal Shem Tob through a book of esoteric knowledge.

The Garden of Eden functions as an ark of sorts -- a safe, protective "container" or dish that preserves valuables such as living things and things that give life (knowledge and will), much like Noah's ark, the Jaredite barges or the ark of the Covenant functioned. The protection can be provided as a transport vehicle or as a stationary container.
