Can LDS Apologists Be Kind?

Since critics of the church believe themselves scholars but do not consider that anyone can be LDS and a scholar then the example fits.

We need to be careful about making generalized statements (I am certain Deborah really meant "some critics" here). I am not picking on Deborah here as I've seen it through the thread and am just using her post as an example and I don't think it's really intentional to paint all of one group as having a monolithic approach in most cases, it is simply being a little to quick in our writing and not being precise enough, but unfortunately this can cause others who are reading our posts to misinterpret what we really mean.

Oh, Blair, are you still upset with me? How long will you cling to this vendetta? You're starting to remind me of Trevor Luke.

Upset with you? You're the one who broke off contact with me. It's ridiculous that you're acting like your comment wasn't a veiled threat or attempt at intimidation. You're dishonest and your online behavior is embarrassing. I hope one day you find better things to do with your time. You're a bright guy and you don't need to act like this.

You forgot to mention our liberal agenda and our right wing agenda.

And let's not forget your obsessive need to ensure that nothing negative about the Church ever sees the light of day on the board.

Your actions speak much louder than your words.

Yes. They do.

But don't worry about it. Believe me, I'm accustomed to incessant demonization. Many of the people in your circle of friends have been doing it for years.

I'm sure it doesn't bother you since you already have your calling and election made sure. Do you really think all the things you've written on the internet just disappear? Your words are everywhere. Google your own name. You don't even have to go to "the other board", Will. Honestly, I don't know why you can't see how damaging your words are to the work of both the church and other apologists.

Yes. People are mocking you and contrary to what you think, I have not been one of them. I don't find this funny enough to laugh about. But, and this is important, they are mocking you with your own words and putting up the hyperlinks to your own characteristically unChrist-like posts. If you want to be angry with someone for what you're reaping, look in the mirror at the man who has sown.

And don't be offended when those of us who are on your ideological side get frustrated with the blowback.

Unfortunately, these were not simply veiled threats. Suffice it to say that he has sent various email accusations against me to BYU and Maxwell Institute scholars. I refuse to air this dirty laundry in public, but it is dirty and provides important context to his post.

I'm just getting caught up with this fast-moving thread. Frankly, this post is the single most shocking thing Bokovoy has done to date.

Wow! Talk about a self-destructive impulse!

Go ahead, David, feel free to produce the evidence for your accusations. Since we both know very well who has been attempting to demonize whom in the eyes of certain Maxwell Institute people, it should be very interesting to watch this whole thing play out.

I'm afraid you've made a grave error in judgment, letting your emotions push you into this egregious miscalculation.

I may be a little old-fashioned; after all, I come from a generation for whom loyalty is still a virtue.

I think loyalty can display itself in many ways. Making a claim that a certain group of people should perform at a higher standard often carries the assumption that the group not only should, but can operate at that higher level, has the ability in contrast to others which seems to me implies a great deal of loyalty.

So . . . Will . . . you malefacting miscreant! Any new news on your expansions on your last Summer's stuff on the KEP, etc., and a possible/probable publication date?

USU "My soul panteth, yea yearneth" 78

The scroll length paper will appear in the upcoming issue of JBOMORS. The first in a series of KEP/EA/GAEL articles will appear in the second 2011 issue of JBMORS, by which time I hope to squeeze a couple more lunches out of Paul Hoskisson. ;) Seriously, though, the guy knows about great places to eat in the Provo/Orem area!

Since you'll never make a dime on this and are paying all that travel . . . make him pick up lunch!

Great to see you on the new board, BTW. Don't be such a stranger.

[sigh]. For whatever reason this board is set up to filter out links to that board. You'll need to use TinyURL (or something similar) to defeat this silliness.

I believe it is in apart to avoid cross posting. Using Tinyurl would still be violating board rules, btw.

Let it go Will. I've said my peace. I'm not going to make these emails public. There are other people involved including someone else whom I respect that you wrongfully accused in your exchanges that does not deserve to be drug into this mess. No one does. You need to just drop this issue and move along, honestly. Though I was offended, I'm not worried about it. People know me and I do not believe real damage was done. So let it go. Given the ugliness of this situation, I was simply forced to provide context for my feelings. But I'm done with the drama and will extend it no further.

The standards of all LDS are the same.

No they aren't. That is for each individual to declare for themselves no matter what their religious beliefs are.
