Remember the 70's

Remember high heel shoes and polyester suits from the 70's? I was thinking about our culture and some of the things we find "cool" now and wondering what are some of the syles we will look back on in 20 or 30 years and say, "what the heck were we thinking!" Here are a few that IMHO should be in consideration. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to do pictures...and preface this with saying I am sure some will find these styles "cool"

1. Men wearing skinny jeans or women's jeans

2. Men or women with the spikey hair cut or the messy haircut style

3. Last but least but men, usually younger males wearing pants that hang around their thighs

Sorry... I go back even further... but:

Levis with holes in the knees...

Stone washed levis/jeans...

That whole "grunge" look that holds on today... not to mention "Goth"...

A couple of years ago I was working for a Red Cross blood drive that was being held at our local high school. We set up our table in the gymnasium and students would come in to give blood. I remember being appalled at the way the kids dressed, i.e., how grungy they looked.

I grew up in the 50's... high school from '56 - '58. It was truly "Happy Days" and a wonderful time to be a teen. The "neater" you were the better... we girls would wear our dyed-to-match skirt/sweaters with our white buck shoes and matching socks... our pony tales (the longer your hair, the better). We wore dresses with crinolin slips that made them poof out... And the boys looked just as cool in their white peggers with button down shirts. I look back in my yearbook and we really were good looking, particularly compared to the 60's and beyond. I have such wonderful memories...

Yea...I could never figure out how those stone washed jeans with holes sold for so much. I got a pair I have had probably for ten years now. I guess there probably worth more since the knees just ripped .

As we all get older in the Pagan Community, it is easy to get confused about how we should present ourselves. We're unsure as we try to be nice and harmonize with the fashions that younger members of our community have adopted.

So I've made a sincere study of the situation and here are the results. Despite what you may have seen on the streets or at Pagan gatherings, the following combinations do not go together and thus should be avoided:

1. A eyebrow piercing and bifocals
2. Pony tails and bald spots
3. A pierced tongue and dentures
4. Ankle bracelets and corn pads
5. Chest jewelry and a gall bladder surgery scar
6. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge
7. Tattoos and liver spots or varicose veins
8. Belly-button piercings and old pregnancy stretch marks
9. Skyclad and Depends.

Please keep these basic guidelines foremost in your mind when you shop.

Too funny...I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want to pierce their eyebrows or bellybutton but for someone in the "more mature" generation i.e. implied from Nos. 1&3, me thinks there is some interesting psychology going on there...

Ditto! The 70s WAS a tacky decade. However, turning your body into a pincushion and wearing pants with the crotch at your knees, makes the 70s look classy.
