No it isn't, and its quite vague- too the point that it isn't a report at all.

Of course it is; it's a report of what MM's brother said.

If you want to know what MM's brother said, you need look no farther than MM's report.

OTOH, if you want to know what Mr. Nemelka said, you might want another source.

Wasn't there a Richard Nemelka who played basketball for BYU in the 70's?

Regards,

Pahoran

My brother was with him for almost 12 hours yesterday. He reports, "He is what he says he is."

Well, Nemelka has said some pretty unflattering things about himself. I will assume that is what he meant.

I find it unfortunate that it's only today that I stumble on this thread. I was actually in Utah Saturday and would have attended! Then again, I don't think my wife would have wanted to delay our departure home for me to attend. I was there in spirit, retrospectively, of course.

My report is 100% accurate.

Perhaps you can expand. You are being vague.

My brother spent the day at the conference. He had lunch with Ida Smith and afterward went to dinner with Christopher Nemelka at Chuck-A-Rama. He thinks they are both very nice intelligent people.

Ok you have peaked my interest more. Did your brother have the ham steak or did he eat the meat loaf? Maybe he had more. I heard they have 21 drinks there.

Bottom line is........

Please share more details with us and preferably nothing that has to do with upchuckarama.

Note: Chuckarama has indeed improved their food since the 80's.

The closest I could find was this- http://chrisnemelka.com/?p=3205 (Warning- some foul language)

But it probably didn't go as well as Mortal Man vaguely claiming it did.

Try here.

It seems odd to me that so many people hate him so much just for translating the sealed plates. I doubt that many of his malevolent stalkers have even looked at the book. Many, if not most, who have read the book have found deep spiritual fulfillment in it. Why should they be criticized for believing in modern revelation?

Obviously you are quite blind to this man's past history and what he has done to other people, and even to the contradictory statements he has made as well. His scriptures that he 'translated' have been debunked as having too many flaws and errors that deeply hurt its credibility in matching with the Bible and BOM.

Your simpleton advocacy to this false prophet and sociopath is quite laughable, as is this biased report that you gave at the last minute here.

Nonsense. In fact, I purchased a copy for my father for his birthday. He, in turn, purchased a copy for his friend.

According to Nemelka, a video copy of the symposium will cost each person $45,000. Timothy and John the Beloved were in attendance, and from the looks of it, John will be staying in Salt Lake for the next few weeks. I wonder if he'll be at General Conference?

I guess Chris is done giving lectures in public though:

My teaching and preaching days are over. The bitterness of trying to preach repentance and point out the flaws of human mortality is done. I am no longer under any obligation to teach, give my opinion, or attempt to change the course set forth and perpetuated by the free-willed actions of my siblings upon this earth...And until the day I die, I will be here, never confounding, never teaching, never giving my opinion, but available to the world to explain any part of this work...Back to being a winebibber, womanizer, demonic, Anti-Christ, deceiver, manipulator, or whatever other word might best describe the majority of the men living on this planet

The Sealed Plates are a free gift to all mankind. Every one that thirsteth may come to the waters, and he that hath no money may buy and eat; yea, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

No, Nemelka doesn't have the right spirit, that he doesn't... he's not the one to do this, nah.

O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Be not faithless, but believing.

You don't beleive he translated the sealed protion any more than you beleive JS tranlstated the papryi of Abraham.

MM, I didn't doubt, I asked.

As far as the Lord has told me, the Lord does not want me having to do anything with Nemelka.

When I asked, I received a spirit of temptation. One that tried to force me to choose an option.

Following that, the Lord let me know not to follow him, that he was not the right path. For me, the path is the prophets and apostles.

In addition, the fact that a forceful spirit (and the Lord does not use a forceful spirit) tried to force Nemelka on me is not a good thing indeed.

Now could we please let the subject drop? Thanks... it has been talked about enough.

Whatever Nemelka seems to be, he is most certainly not a divinely-inspired translator or revelator. One need only look at the first chapter of his work The Book of Lehi.

I read the initial chapters of the Book of Lehi. I saw no need to go any deeper than that because of what I found there. Feel free to ignore Nemelka's very checkered personal history, as with Joseph Smith the proof of his mission is in his product. With Joseph, it is the Book of Mormon. Nemelka's Book of Lehi is not without its charms, as a work of fiction, in that it is written in grammatical English, but it fails on a very basic level. That level happens to be some rather amazing anachronisms. Check out the following article in the FAIRWiki, which by way of full disclosure contains some of my contributions.

http://en.fairmormon.org/Criticism_of_Mormonism/Books/The_%22Book_of_Lehi%22

It contradicts the Book of Mormon in several important ways, and it displays a surprising lack of understanding of the organization of the Levitical Priesthood. My primary contribution to this article was:

The Problem of Multiple High Priests

In the "Book of Lehi," Lehi is identified as a High Priest after the order of Aaron. He is not the only contemporaneous High Priest, either, as the author mentions how there were an unspecified number of them present in Jerusalem at the time, in chapter 1, verse 15: "And many of these prophets were bound by the Jews and carried forth unto the High Priests to see what should be done with them." According to the author, these High Priests were called to serve by their lineage and "also by the laying on of hands by those who were in authority." Laban, who was later slain by Nephi, is identified as the chief High Priest.

From the time of Aaron until the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, there was always only one High Priest, who held that office due only to his status as a Levite and to his descent from Aaron, the first High Priest. Lehi was a Mannasehite, as was Laban, and was thus ineligible. Tellingly, the author's words "...also by the laying on of hands by those who were in authority..." make clear the source for his apparent Quorum of High Priests: his knowledge of modern-day priesthood government. The author's "High Priests" are a clear anachronism.

Nemelka, if for no other reason than his Book of Lehi, demonstrates abundantly that he is a fraud.

I think the important thing here is not to get hung up on so-called "anachronisms" but rather to keep our hearts open so that we may learn what the Book of Lehi can teach us about the Levitical Priesthood.

Did you pray to know that the Book of Lehi is true? If you're past feeling you won't feel the promptings of the spirit.

I know you're talking out of your butt, MM, but you still sound stupid. :P

Congradulations! ;)

I already told you that he doesn't have the right spirit.

I know he is not right in the same way I know the BoM is right and in the same way I know what choices I should make. Through the spirit.

Now could ya' please stop bugging us about this (TAO is whipping his tail back and forth in annoyance :P). Thanks.

I understand that this is likely to provoke some unpleasant remarks about myself, MM, but, quite seriously, your perpetually condescending and mocking sneer grew old for me a very, very long while back. Just so you know.

Ye shall know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:16)

It appears that some didn't like his fruits so the spirit lead them to disregard his claims. It is disingenuous to disregard someone's spiritual confirmation of something even if you disagree with what they are saying.

I know that this translation is a fraud, the Spirit has confirmed this to me after reading the "Sealed Portion" that Nemelka claims to translate.

As TAO said it seems like a lot of force and bad spirits are behind this so called translation, but unlike some who try and press others into compliance. I accept that you believe this man to be a prophet of God, just as I accept him to be a false prophet.

We both have spiritual confirmations of this an we both have tested his fruits to a different conclusion, but we are sticking to the scriptures and letting all worship God according to their conscience (See the 11th Article of Faith).

So why do you feel the need to disregard the scriptures and instead be so forceful towards another in regards to there personal revelations?

Thank you for your pleasant advice Dan, but in this case (and every other case, come to think of it) your allegations of "sneering" are unwarranted.

First of all:

(1) My brother really did attend the symposium.

(2) He really did have lunch with Ida.

(3) He really did have dinner with Christopher.

and

(4) He really does believe in the Sealed Portion.

(But then, he also believes in Edgar Cayce, Emanuel Swedenborg, Scientology, the Urantia Book, faith healings, alien abductions, energy vitamins and body cleansings.)

My other brother, on the other hand, (the oldest and wisest one, who reminds me of you) is far more skeptical. You may be interested and/or amused to know that when I mentioned the Sealed Portion to him, he replied, "What do real scholars like Daniel Peterson say about it?" I, of course, without any sneering or mockery whatsoever, pointed him to your comments here, which, as far as I know, is all you've had to say about it.
