Scott Lloyd Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 The church is the people, and it is beyond the people. In other words, the righteousness and righteous acts of the church derive from the people making decisions and implementing the Lords will. When they cease to do so, the people no lonber belong to the church (ie the church of God) and so it no longer exists for them, but awaits a time when the righteous are once again able to bear the responsibilities of the church.I agree with this. And it is upon this logic that I base my contention that the Church of Jesus Christ as an institution does not bear guilt for the actions of the perpetrators of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. At the moment they took it it into their hearts to murder those travelers, they ceased in any meaningful way to belong to the church of God.
emeliza Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Interesting (and unfortunate). I've experienced the reverse regarding not having "enough" children.Yep, that is what I experience as well. I have two and now that I am married it seems many people want to know if and when I am going to reproduce again. If I tell them we don't plan on having any more (which is true) they want to know why. It is really intrusive, but I don't think anyone is trying to be mean, they just for some reason want to know.

semlogo Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I think it's terribly insensitive either way to judge someone for having too many or too few children. It's up to each family to decide what's best for them.
