Analytics Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-chait/82634/preliminary-breakdown-the-gop-contendersThe entry of Jon Huntsman into the Republican primary field has created strong competition for what has to be a tiny number of Republican voters who want a nominee who's both sane and Mormon:Note that while the GOP field has two sane Mormon candidates, which is probably two more than there's room for, the "sane, non-Mormon"and "insane Mormon" fields are wide open. I'm not sure who's the best fit for the former category, but the latter is just screaming for Glenn Beck.
jadams_4242 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 http://www.tnr.com/b...-gop-contenders gonna need a whole lot more stronger candidate than "any" of those to beat obama...And being l.d.s i would not vote for romney ever!1 and also i dont think the world is ready for a mormon pres yet, no matter what political affiliation...
Pahoran Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 "Note that while the GOP field has two sane Mormon candidates, which is probably two more than there's room for, the 'sane, non-Mormon' and 'insane Mormon' fields are wide open. Libs Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 but the latter is just screaming for Glenn Beck.Indeed.
Vance Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 You have the polarity on the "sanity" axis reversed.
USU78 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 So . . . anybody that isn't a career socialist is insane?
BCSpace Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 What are the criteria/decision matricies for Mormonism and sanity?
ttribe Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Talk about political bomb throwing.BTW, I (for one) don't care whether a candidate is LDS. I didn't vote for Romney the last time, and I'm not any more likely at this point. I don't know enough about Huntsman yet to care.
thesometimesaint Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Bachmann is as close to insane as you can get without a straitjacket. But she is qualified to be President of the US.
Analytics Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 So . . . anybody that isn't a career socialist is insane? Are you insiuating that Mitt Romney is a career socialist?

RomneyCare in a nutshell: taxes and premiums from each according his ability, medical care to each according to his needs.
Libs Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I suppose that's true, LOL. RomneyCare in a nutshell: taxes and premiums from each according his ability, medical care to each according to his needs.Gosh, I might be, almost, convinced to vote for the man.

RomneyCare in a nutshell: taxes and premiums from each according his ability, medical care to each according to his needs.Gosh, I might be, almost, convinced to vote for the man. Why? Such systems have been proven never to pay for themselves because goods and services are free or the prices are otherwise artificially lowered therefore also causing the effect of reduced supply and lower quality. I suppose one could throw more and more money at it until the nation is bankrupt as has been the case elsewhere.......Marx is dead and we don't need to relearn that lesson.

Would you vote for a Marxist like Romney?
thesometimesaint Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 BCSpace:"Reagan is dead. When was the last time you heard the Tea Party declaim for less medicare, or higher premiums?
Vance Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Bachmann is as close to insane as you can get without a straitjacket. But she is qualified to be President of the US. This statement reveals more about you than it does about her.
thesometimesaint Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Vance:That it MIGHT. I am a Psychiatric Social Worker. So I am qualified to make that assessment. If I were to actually make one. Insanity is a catchall term and hardly makes for a diagnosis. However one measure of insanity is to repeatedly express opinions utterly devoid of facts. To give but one example of an opinion devoid of facts by Bachmann is her statement about the founding fathers working tirelessly to eliminate slavery. The Founders OWNED slaves. George Washington owned over 200. Thomas Jefferson over 150. James Madison, essentially the writer of the Constitution, owned over 150, and the list of Presidents and founders who owned slaves is long and infamous. It wasn't until the US Civil War that the issue of that "Peculiar Institution" was settled. It is equally fact that she is qualified to be President of the US. She is at least 35 years old, as a native born US Citizen. It is right there in the Constitution.
krose Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This statement reveals more about you than it does about her.I, myself, do not doubt her sanity, but I certainly do question her intelligence and education. I am not impressed by people who seem to actually be proud of their ignorance, as the current crop of high-profile Republican women seem to be. Call me old fashioned, but I would like to have smart, well-informed people running my country, rather than "regular Joes" and jingoists.
USU78 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 However one measure of insanity is to repeatedly express opinions utterly devoid of facts with which I agree.Fixed it for you.
USU78 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 smart, well-informed peopleUsually code for "sufficiently committed socialists."Just sayin'
krose Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Usually code for "sufficiently committed socialists."Just sayin'So you may say, but it's certainly not in this case. I don't agree with their politics, and so would never vote for either, but I think both Romney and Huntsman are smart, capable people. (Actually, I take it back. I would definitely vote for either of them if the choice was between one of them and Palin, Bachmann, Chaffetz, Santorum, or Angle.)By the way, the current practice of throwing around the term "socialist" is meaningless, and only intended to insult and mislead. Our current system is somewhere between outright socialism (where the state owns the businesses) and an unfettered free market. I can't imagine that anyone seriously advocates getting rid of all regulations on private business (food and product safety, etc.), or a safety net. I don't even hear any viable candidate suggesting a repeal of Social Security, the VA, or Medicare, all of which are socialist programs that Americans love. There is little real difference in the candidates for the major parties. The fact that a US politician might call for a slightly bigger role for government does not make that person a socialist, any more than a Chinese leader pushing for a slight decrease in his government's role would make him a capitalist.
frankenstein Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 By the way, the current practice of throwing around the term "socialist" is meaningless, and only intended to insult and mislead. i all the terms are meaningless and intended to insult and mislead. A persons political party affiliation does not need to be know when discussing that persons political statements. It just borish and sickening to read supposedly respected news papers who in terms like "liberal", "progressive", "republican", "tea party".The mindless insertion of terms is usually like this "Judge Anothy Scalia, most conservative Supreme Court Judge, stated ..." or "John Smith, liberal, was seen no recycling. " how about so blasted adult conversation for once. I mean we might as start saying "palin has cooties" or similar first grade things. thanks for bring this up krose. I agree that the use of political terms is overwhelmingly designed to insult and distract from actually adult intelligent discussion on a topic.steps down from box

It is his ideas that live on, and we're trying to do something about them too.Shameless lifted from Rush, and one word was edited by me. Except I didn't quote either of them like someone quoted Marx......The VA is socialized(government run) medicine, and it has a higher rating for care than any for profit health insurance plan.Depends on how well it's funded. It doesn't generate capital and therefore is not self sustaining. Like I said, you can throw money after anything.......So is Medicare. Also depends on how it's funded. In this case it's underfunded (price controls) meaning doctors and hospitals charge the difference to private insurance driving rates higher. When was the last time you heard the Tea Party declaim for less medicare, or higher premiums? When did I bring up the Tea Party?
